talking msrp, even off ebay the "authorised" dealers are charging that. you'll get 1 or 2 ebayer who will do 98 hm or 125 forged + 16 shipping. in the end, i went with my usual source, DD. Great price, no sale tax and free shipping...luv'em. Just got receipt and confirmation as I am typing this, shipping 10/13 and I ordered mine with the MCC4+ blue instead of the normal NDMC..that too is usually an up charge at other brands.

Mine was free shipping and no sales tax off ebay. Same price as Golfsmith, but 1 week shipping as opposed to 3-4 weeks. I also got my Lamkin UTx wraps for no upcharge... so..

I'm very interested in the Hot Metal irons but was hoping one of you guys could do me a favor; could you please measure the blade length on the four or five iron.

I'm not thrown off by a thick top line but for some reason don't like a long blade length.

Thanks in advance.

Blade length isn't long, it's shorter than the EZ's and most other GI irons I've hit. It's comparable to the Steelheads. However, I only hit a 6i, not a 4 or 5i. It's comparable to the Apex too, if you've ever hit those. Maybe a touch longer.

Thanks for he info, any comparison to the 716 ap1?

Slightly shorter but not much. It's noticeably smaller than say, M2, Ping G, RSI 1, & EZ, to name a few. After hitting a bunch of shots with the HM, I went back to the EZ and it looked like I was about to hit with a giant billy club. Obviously, it's probably only millimeters in difference, but it was enough to notice.

I will say though, on the 6i, I could juuuuust barely see the bottom of the cavity back poking out, whereas I could not on the EZ. So I imagine on the 5i, and definitely the 4i, you will see some protrusion out of the backside at address. Doesn't really bug me though.

Thanks, I currently play the 2016 EZ forged and love the clubs except the PW, it looks really funky.

I may just replace it with a 46* Vokey wedge.

I may replace my PW with a vokey as well, but I have to see how it spins using a tour ball first. I hit the EZ's so far with such little spin with the mid irons, I worry the PW won't hold greens using my old supersoft balls.

I have a like new just of the box some still in plastic-complete set pinned in the for sale classifieds right now.

I was comparing my XR irons to the new Hot Metals on the range yesterday & I would say that I hit the hot Metals just as far (except the gap wedge) but I seem to have a small fade in the longer irons with Hot Metals as opposed to the XR's. But what really bugged me is the gap wedge distance. It was easily 10 yards shorter than the XR gap wedge (it is 1 degree weaker) & also felt way too light in my hands. I have a 54 degree Mizuno S5 sand wedge that practically matched the Hot Metal gap wedge for distance at 90-95 yards & S5 wedge feels a little more solid. I may switch to the 50 degree S5 wedge to see if I can gain a few extra yards. Normally my XR gap wedge will go between 105-110 yards. Both PW's seem to go about the same distance though. I guess if anyone would ask me I would say I do not like the Hot Metal gap wedge very much. The rest of the set I really like.

JohnKHawk - maybe have the loft checked? I'm iron ho'ing at the moment and have a set of Hot Metals coming with Recoil 95's. Will compare them to the steelheads and keep one of the two sets.

I would be really interested in any reviews of 900F with recoil 95's

Having the loft checked did occur to me & I will probably have that done next week & let everyone know what I found out. A couple other factors may be the shaft flex is stiff instead of the regular flex I usually play & the also the gap wedge is a full 1/4 inch shorter than the XR gap wedge coupled with 1 degree weaker.. All that being said the PW in both sets seem to match up pretty good as far as distance. I really hope that somehow my particular gap wedge is somehow 52 degrees or something similar which would help me make sense of this. I'm not sure how accurate Mizuno is as far as their tolerances are in respect to their irons. I would think that they would be pretty tight.

I have the hot metals coming, not the forged...but will give my two cents when I get them!

Hit the Project X 70 g 4.5 in R flex if you get a chance. Would appreciate your feedback. Because that is my preferred weight and flex.

Went to GG to look at the new mizuno hm, tried both steel and graphite including the project x 70g in r flex. Was never a graphite fan. Went back 3 days later went through the fitting again and ordered the set with the project x 70 g shaft. Played 3 rounds so far, what I found is the shaft is very stable and produces a medium high ball flight. This is the best graphite shaft I have ever tried, a perfect fit for the hot metals.

I never use the OEM wedges if possible, usually only the pitching wedge. I think you are better off using the s5 wedge in this case.

I hit the hm and the 900 forged with the recoil 95 stiff on the range. No distance measurement just judging by eye. The hm wanted to go high and left on most shots. Felt pretty good, but I didn't seem very accurate with them. Put the recoil in the jpx 900 forged and it was amazing. Felt awesome and everything was straight or a slight 5 yard fade.

It will be hard not to buy the jpx 900 forged. But I want to compare themy to the z565/765 first. Course I am hitting my g irons with recoils really good right now and probably don't need to change.

Got my Hot Metals from Discount Dans yesterday, and hit some irons. Wow, the "4" iron is a CANNON, holy smokes, very, very easy to hit and better looking than than the G25 but no so as compact as my RSi2 4 iron but it is longer than my RSi2 4 for sure. Higher launch and more boring flight in comparison. Of course, its still honey moon time but everything is longer, dispersion slightly better or same as my RSi2 irons. More testing tonight.

Modus 3 105 stiff. I totally LUV this shaft and its much better than the KBS 105 stiff I played. Smooth but with feedback and tight.

Saw these today, and they looked really good. Didn't care for the AW as it was really round looking, and definitely more like a wedge than an extension of the set.

+1 !

I demoed the 6 iron with the PX 70g R flex shaft on the course, comparing it with my JPX 825 with Orochi 70 g shafts and of course, real balls. I hit two shots each time I needed a 6 iron. The 900 went consistently 6 meters longer ( half a club), but most importantly the 900 was just as forgiving, although it is slightly smaller (overall) than the JPX. But the best feature was the feel. Very "forged" feel on the 900 whilst the 825 was "clickier". The PX shaft felt very smooth and responsive.

I had a round in and many range times and while the Hot Metals are buttery, it still has a SLIGHT clicky feel with the best impact - but - if you are coming from say an RSi2 iron, the Hot Metal makes the RSi2 (eventhough forged) feel like a cast club.

The juiced lofts are 1/2 club to 1 club more which takes getting used to as I try to figure out my 3/4 swing is a soft or harder iron.

Best thing about my HM is the shaft, what a nice step up from the KBS 105 these Modus 3 are....I am so tempted to reshaft my UDI 2 iron with a Modus 3.

Finally got my hot metals and what you described above is EXACTLY my experience with the gap wedge. My 54* just about goes as far as the HM gap wedge. Makes no sense. I stood at our short game area of the range and hit at least 20 shots with each club from about 100 yards. I don't get it.

Meh on the HM gap I considered that but thanks to Hicksta, I ended up with the CB RTX-3.0, D4.5 swing weight and just awesome, awesome feel and accuracy. 50* 10 bounce

I'm thinking of adding the rtx3 gap wedge myself...good to hear that it's working for you. I have the 54 and really like it. Now that my gap wedge rant is over, the rest of the HM set with the recoil 95s are awesome. Just hit them again at the range and these things go high and deep. Hopefully distance control isn't an issue in the course.
