What's your $/ball figure breakpoint?

I always figure dollar per including shipping if required to determine what ball to buy.

 

High handicapper right now so i dont have a goto ball right now. Still got 14 boxes of Nike RZN Black 2014 which i got for $1.67 a ball.

 

Looking around for cheap deals on 2016 RZN Platinums but they seem to be all off the shelves. Stores must want to blow them out soon.

 

Just worked out $2.38 (ok) for Snell Get Sum balls including shipping compared to $3.66 (too much) for Snell MTB.

 

So i got to thinking $3 might be my cut off point for golf balls. You guys?

Pretty easy.

 

The MG Tour is the gold standard in tour ball price point. $20 a dozen + shipping for 3 piece Urethane. Anything around that for a discounted new urethane ball or AAAAA ProV1s on one of the used ball sites.

 

Non-Urethane ball benchmark is the Top Flite Gamer Soft. Usually can score it 2 dozen for $30.

 

Really no need to go much above these prices, although I am not too much of a stickler if a good ball comes along for a few bucks higher. I don't think I have paid more than $25/dozen for a tour level ball in several years.

About $1 per ball, which usually gets me about anything used 4A / 2nd quality, including Pro Vs if I wait for a sale or combine an order to get free shipping.

I don't lose many and usually wear them out first. So my concerns are distance, spin, feel, durability, then cost. Since I don't lose many I don't mind to spend $50 a dozen if I feel it's the best ball for me, which must be my max because I've not been able to bring myself to spend any more than that to try the fancy JDM balls that are out there at higher costs.

Today it's about $30 dozen. I'm simply not going to spend $50 per dozen. Today, in winter. Come summer and I'll pay whatever a top ball costs. Never thought I'd ever spend over $30 on green fees either, but those days are long gone. Now $50 is norm and thrice that is a couple times per year. Tennis anyone?

$25/dozen shipped is my threshold. Just stocked up on "ammo box" Z-stars and Maxfli U6's for far under that number. I don't understand why people above scratch spend money on Pro V1's or similar that cost $40+/dozen.

I try to limit it to $20/dozen more or less. I go thorough a little more than a ball per round on average so spending more would not be a huge burden. But never more than $30/dozen under any circumstance.

For $2/ball and less there is an excellent selection of balls for my 64 year old 17 HCP game - Gamer Soft, Softfli, DT TruSoft, and SuperSoft are some good examples. I will make an exception to try a sleeve of balls like the Duo U (which I have not done yet) but there are some great performing balls (for me) on the market for a low price.

Generally like to keep it under $2 a ball. It's really not hard to play pretty good balls for that price if you wait for deals and can buy in bulk to offset shipping costs. I also don't mind playing used, although I haven't had to in a few years to stay in that range.

 

That said, I've never been a huge feel guy or relied heavily on spin around the greens. I like a really high flight and a bump in run chip shot.

With greens fees at $30 on the low end and about $75 on the high end, and usually playing for a few shekels, I'm using the best ball (IMO of course) that allows me to shoot my best score. NO compromises.

 

And since I typically only use 1 ball per round and under normal circumstances can use a ball easily for 2 rounds, an $2.50 per round is a pittance compared to the greens fee (and the outcome).

Limit for me is $25-30 tops per dozen. I just got 17 dozen Nike tour blacks for $11.99 and a bunch of b330s for $20 a dozen so I think I'm set for a while. I can usually find any ball I ever want to try if I look hard enough in the $25-30 range.

i buy 5A used premium balls. Refurbished, NOT refinished. for ProV1, B330, TourPreferred Etc, anything under $1.80 per ball is good deal. Recently bought 100 B330S mint condition NOT refinished (this is important) for $1.40 per ball

Never do I buy used, though some of our regular Sunday foursome do (one buys in large quantities, gets Chrome Soft 5A for 48 cents each)....for new, depends, if I had to, I guess I'd buy a sleeve at pro shop, but generally I buy in bulk, under $3 a ball shipped, tax in. Last purchase was 2016 Chrome Soft yellow for $2.76 each.

 

I don't lose very many balls, so I like new ones. Our buddy who buys used, loses about 3 to 6 per day (27 holes on any given Sunday)

$2 / ball is my upper limit. I'm still working on using up my Lethal practice balls I got from Woot for $0.83 a ball. Still the best golf ball deal I've ever seen...I think I have like 5 or 6 dozen left.
