You are lucky living in the US. Local store is discounting current V1s to £35 / $42 a dozen or $3.50 a ball. And Titleist UK are strict on selling them any cheaper. New balls will be at least £42 a dozen or more than $4.20 a ball. Ouch.

THE PROV1 AND PROV1X WILL BE ON SALE NOW AS THE NEWER MODELS WILL BE INTRODUCED SOON. PRO SHOPS AND LOCAL STORES WILL BE TRYING TO UNLOAD THEM. IF YOU WERE TO WALK INTO A PRO SHOP HERE, THEY ARE MORE THAN LIKELY AROUND $40/DZ

I buy prov1x X outs or practice for $29 dozen for all casual and practice rounds. And stock up this time of cycle on the discounted "clean " prov1x so getting them for $36.99 a dozen . I don't loose many balls so it's really not a huge issue. I get my money's worth.

Okay, look at it THIS way.........Most complaints about golf ball cost are proportionate to how many balls they LOSE.........Thus, a guy that brings 3 sleeves to the course and loses 2 of them will naturally think the tour balls are too expensive......As my father said, "Don't lose so many balls!"......lol

Some people play new balls every round (not me). But even if you dont' lose any balls, $1.25 is still less than $4.00 no matter how you dice it.

I can get all the TaylorMade Lethals I want for a $1.94 per, so that is my max. Got the K-Sig for 1.27 per as well. I should be stocked up for the next 3-4 years.

I agree on the Lethal thing. Once that ball was established on a long-term basis at the $24/dozen price point I lost any incentive to pay more. There are some of the "Tour" type balls that I like better than the Lethal. So as long as I can find those under $20/dozen I'm good but as a fallback Taylormade will gladly sell me as many perfectly fine golf balls as I like for two bucks a ball. As far as I'm concerned, prices aren't relative to how much someone pays for ProV1's at the golf course pro shop but rather to that Lethal price point.

Your math/logic is impeccable. :beruo:

I'd venture a guess that the lower one's handicap the more likely they are to

a) At least start every round with a new ball.

and

2) Pay more per ball.

Like I said, just a guess,,,,,,,,,, :hi:

$25 a Dozen for a Tour Ball, I stop there. If I can't get it at that price I don't buy.

I've been able to get Bridgestones & TM at that price for years. Which works for me.

"The golfer get's on the first tee, and he hits the ball 130 yards right.... into the f-in woods. Good start to a great day here boys. It was a $5 ball, cause that's the ball that Tiger uses.. Whatd you learn today? You're not f-in Tiger." - Lewis Black.

I can't help but think of that every time I look down at a premium ball sitting on the tee.

I like the $3 per range. I'm getting better, some days anyways, so it's becoming more affordable as I keep them longer. Now I worry more about durability as I chew them up with wedges (which replaced cart paths and trees) and I let it get in my head when I see a ball with those 4-5 little cuts in the skin on it. Catch the wind just right, and it might be a boomerang, ya know?

I was kidding about the boomerang part, but the mental inability to play a ball once I notice a reasonable blemish makes them as expensive as the fear of losing them does.

I know how you feel. I bought a shag bag and put all my scratched up balls into it after the round so I don't feel like I've wasted them. It's nice to practice chips and pitches with balls I'd actually play.

i'll take a mint yet used premium ball for <$3/ball before a brand new 3 piece non premium for <$3/ball.

with all the options to buy used no reason to spend more than this. i stay under $2/ball for premium and buy 4a or 5a. refurbished.....never refinished.

What do you mean by "premium"? Is that by definition a ball that list prices at $3 or more?

To my thinking, the major breakpoint is between multi-piece construction with urethane covers versus balls with Surlyn covers. Titleist will happily sell you a Surlyn cover ball for something like $35/dozen but that price does not make it "premium", only "expensive".
