Adieu and farewell

I have been a member here for a fair few years now, and had various ups and downs here for various reasons. But I joined this forum for friendly comparisons about this wonderful game, and to learn about other peoples experiences and new equipment releases.

 

This week I have found this site degenerate it the most poisonous Nationalistic forum and environment that I have had the misfortune to frequent in 50 years on this earth. All the talk on bad teeth, hooligans, living and playing in Florida has shown it's xenophobic mark. This both saddens me and angers me greatly and was not what I joined the forum for. It has become a platform to show and express Nationalistic bents that are bordering on the aggressive in nature. The world has enough dangerous idiots in it, and it appears some of them are coming on here.

 

The forum has a cancer in it's membership and has spread to disgraceful levels. To which end, I feel that it is no longer an environment that I wish to frequent and therefore would like to wish all the people that I have encountered who have been polite and informative over the years a fond farewell. To the others with that streak in their psyche that I have mentioned above, I feel sorry for you that your lives are so incomplete. I have fought for my country, but not for this. So I leave you to your lives on GolfWrx with great sadness for you.

I've been here since 2008, and the Ryder Cup without question is the most unpleasant time of year (well every 2 years) on this forum. This year was actually better than most to be honest, though the threads that pop up every single time are as predictable as sunrise. Maybe in 2 years i'll just start them before it begins and do everyone a favor.

 

I would love to see the mods employ a stricter criteria for suspension and bans during the RC time, but i understand it's difficult because fans are going to be passionate about such an event.

 

But even as a neutral party (honestly i like both places!) the armchair history lessons about WW2, (this time we even got an American Revolution comparison!), the same tired picture of the Americans celebrating at brookline, the same tired threads about how europeans are so well behaved countered by the obvious references to soccer hooligans. The same tired threads about how the Europeans live in the US and are "basically american"...

 

Sheesh can we just pin them all?

Meh, if someone bothers me enough I just put them on the ignore list. I have left sites because I didn't like the people that hosted the site. I am not sure I would ever let other users run me away.

Do you even Internet bro? This place is mild compared to the average sites out there, and truthfully I just stay away from any sort of controversial topics that might cause me to (once again) get a temp. ban. I can admit I was a hot head when I first joined, because it's easy to talk crap on the internet with zero fear of any repercussions, but now I just find those people you talk about funny and almost pitiful. Sure there are people on here I disagree with almost daily, but I'm just as quick to forget about what they said and move on with life. GolfWRX is the only place, IMHO, on the interwebs where I can get my golf everything fix. But like so many things in life, it has its flaws but what doesn't?

But I don't understand where your issues are coming from. Are you talking about Ryder Cup discussions? Easy fix. Don't read the Ryder Cup discussions. Are you talking about political stuff? Easy fix. Report political postings to the moderators and they will be removed.

 

Or is there something I'm missing?

As one of the old guys, like Jeff said, I agree: This is the most contentious time on Wrx. You can't take this stuff personally. If you have to go, you have to go, but think of this: No one is going to agree with you in life. It doesn't work like that and frankly never will. If you get THAT easily offended from this little site, you might want to look at yourself instead of the site. Having been in Europe, I've seen the other side of this coin too. I think you protest too much. IMV, you need considerably thicker skin if you're offended by this.

I believe this is a place to have a bit of fun and get diverted from the daily grind, especially when we can't be playing golf. I wouldn't take it so seriously. I only belonged to another forum but I simply left it because it was boring. GolfWRX is cool, not too opinionated and mostly friendly. Ryder Cup time's always a bit over the board on here, but nothing outrageous, I'm afraid.

Its simple, do what i did and have a golfwrx holiday, i havent been on since friday, first day back on today, and have to say i think its actually been quite tame, especially considering the US won, it will be 10 times worse in 2 years time and we win it back :taunt:

I've been here a long while and don't get that at all. I guess I find a way to stay out of most of that. As far as the Ryder Cup stuff, now that it is over, most will again be fans of those individuals they hated during the cup.

This place is one of, if not THE most tame and sane golf boards out there. I know, because it took me ten years to find it. Re-think this, and you will make the right decision and stay--this is a great place.

This is why the ignore function is so great. just hit the button and you are done with those folks. I tend to stay away from the emotional/political discussions as they never end well. Same for Cameron putters, GI vs Blades, etc.

 

You can't fix stupid....remain a member and participate in the discussions you want to contribute to.

That being said, if I left someplace any time someone jabbed me then I couldn't even stay at home. I'd be wandering the streets but would need a new street every day. People start a thread saying they are leaving because they think they are important and people are begging for their insight and perspective. "Whoa! Did you hear jay65 is leaving??? Really makes you think man! I will have to re evaluate things in my life" it's all very comical
