Del was in good shape today. Greens and fairways were a little grainy (need to give it about another week or so so they can mow them down) but it played well. Course looks incredible though. Here’s a pic from hole #4.

It's unreal how many ways I've managed to screw that hole up.

How was pace of play?

Right at 4 hours, which was surprising because the tee sheet was full. We would have been done sooner but the foursome 2 groups ahead of us was holding everyone back. They were atleast 2 holes behind for the majority of the round.

#4 can be difficult. It screams “HIT DRIVER” but unless you’re accurate off the tee it’s best to just lay up to 100 yards. I’ve taken everything from birdie on that hole to a triple bogey. Yesterday I hit 3 wood to about 15 yards short, chipped past the hole and 3 jacked. It was ugly.

Yeah the only times I pulled driver were back when I first started and my stupid brain rationalized it somehow. Even now I niether have the control nor the short game skills to make it worth it.

Laying up short of both bunkers is my main play now but even then I've hit the wrong tier and 3 jacked. If I want to be a little more aggressive I try and hit 3 wood over the left bunker. If I hit it well it leaves a straightforward chip and if I wipe it, I still end up ok. Usually this works out well but of course two of my most well struck 3 woods ever happened on this hole. One ended up on that back hill leaving a chip way below the feet, and the other got a weird kick over the hill and bounced to the 16th tee box. Tripled one and doubled the other. Still trying to figure out how to hit 3 wood that well more often lol

Played AZ National today. Course is in great shape. Cart path only but the greens were running good. $46 though which was decent, I just wish they would include range balls with the green fee.

Looking for recommendations on places to play for a first time visitor next March. I have been travelling to Phoenix/Scottsdale the last seven years and decided to change it up next year and check out Tucson. I have played We-Ko-Pa, Quintero, Troon North, The Boulders, Grayhawk, Legen Trail, etc in Scottsdale - not overly worried about cost during peek season. Any advice? Thanks.

Man I need to get out to AZ National, looks awesome.

Played Del yesterday and man it's in awesome shape. Greens a little sticky and slow but other than that, it's fantastic.

It was. They are lifting the cart path only this Friday so I’d wait till after that but the course was in great shape. Greens were running about 9 but rolled really nice. Obviously there were some slightly bare spots in the fairways where the grass hadn’t come in as thick but it will only get better IMO. AZ National has always been one of my favorite tracks.

Played AZ National today. Course is in great shape. Cart path only but the greens were running good. $46 though which was decent, I just wish they would include range balls with the green fee.

This range ball comment caught me off guard. I just moved back to Tucson and have a hefty gift certificate for AZ Nat. Are you saying there aren't the pyramids of balls out there? I had hoped to chip away on the gift cert by heading to that back part of the range and hitting balls and chipping/pitching on that practice green. Used to be able to pay like 20$ and do that for as long as you want. Is that not an option now? Are they running it like a driving range now?

And I saw Del Urich yesterday and it looked great!

I don’t know if they still do the range pass, ever since OB took it over. I have always thought of AZ National as one of the mid to upper courses in town, and those courses always have range balls included in their green fees. It might be nit picking.

Not nit picking at all! Some of the questionable conditions they have had compared to the rate charged over the last few years (at least while visiting, in my opinion) the included range balls made it a bit less painful. I hope they can turn it around this year somehow. Rumblings of a bleak future if they can't generate more rounds. This doesn't help that.

Since all the cool kids are playing Dell Urich lately I thought I'd play it as well. Putted laughably bad but still managed to shoot two strokes off my personal best. Weather was perfect and like mentioned before the course was solid.

Also saw this cutie playing around in the pond by 15-17.

We thought she was a coyote at first off in the distance then realized she was way too clean. Unfortunately she wouldn't let me get close enough to read the tags. Told the starter about her when we got back so hopefully they had better luck. She looked like she was having the time of her life though, chasing ducks, swimming in the pond and running up and down the fairways.

Plenty of options right around the area. My personal favorite is Zinburger.

A few other good options are

Ra Sushi

North Italia

Sullivan's and Flemings- Couple of goodsteakhouses.

All of those are 5-10 minutes from Hacienda

Played Silverbell yesterday with the men’s group. Great shape so far. Cart path only but I walked. Greens were playing better than Del after their overseed, though I’m sure Del is in fantastic shape now. Course was a little soggy in a few spots, as one of our guys in my group had to take a free drop on 17 due to excess water. Overall though very good shape. This years overseed seems to be doing awesome for all the courses.

Thanks for the report.

I never saw the final results of all the forum meetings on the future of City Golf, but I kept getting the feeling that Silverbell was closest to the chopping block. I know it was Enke for a while, but lately it seems like it's the Bell? Maybe it's just me misinterpreting what I am reading and hearing? Hope not, even though it is on the far side of town for me, It still hold a warm spot in my heart. First Hole in 1 on that (first?) Par 3 on the front!

I sincerely doubt they will be closing any of the courses any time soon TBH. With OB taking them over they are in good shape now and getting plenty of play. I love Enke, except hole 5. That’s the dumbest par 5 on the face of the planet. Silverbell has never been a favorite of mine. Shot a paltry 79 there yesterday. Putter just wasn’t working.

Played Del today with the men’s group. Course is in beautiful shape. Greens were actually a little quick too! The greenskeeper must have been pissed off at someone because the pins were in some stupid positions today. Shot +5 with 4 birdies (ouch). A couple bad mistakes but oh well. Went on a nice little run and birdied 12-13-14. Definitely go check it out.

First time at Silverbell in probably 10 years. I didn’t play, just planned on using the range but it was closed. I can’t believe how good the practice facilities are out there. Gonna start going there a lot, gonna start taking golf serious again to play competitively in my off time.

Played Del Lago with Shipwreck yesterday.

Course looked pretty nice, but the greens were just verdict and fuzzy. Hard to find the pace.

I played like poo as well.

I'd like to see it again with the greens better.

Played San Pedro in Benson this past weekend. Course was very wet in areas, but dried out well over the weekend(match play event). Greens were very good, receptive, rolling true and by Sunday were pretty dang quick.

Played the course 4 times in 3 days, honestly it is one of the funnest layouts I have played in a while. Just a blast. The course fits in really well with the terrain, designer did a great job using that terrain to create some very unique holes. If I'm in the area again I would absolutely look forward to playing it again.
