2017 Tucson area course conditions thread

Played Sewailo today. Conditions are amazing, greens are super receptive and rolling amazing. Rough is THICK though.

Played Ventana (Canyon) yesterday. Great shape!

I'm new to the area and am just checking out as many courses as I can while it's cheap.

So far I've played 49'er twice, Fred Enke twice, AZ National one time, Randolph once and now Ventana Canyon.

Played with Shipwreck, whom I met through this forum.

Course is in great shape with all our rain last month. Greens were perfect!

Unfortunately we were paired with a couple of very slow players and I played like crap.......LOL

I'll go back for sure while it's still summertime cheap...

After a month of playing courses such as Sewailo, Starr Pass, Troon North Pinnacle, and Wickenburg Ranch, I decided to start this month off strong and play El Rio on Thursday...

 

In all seriousness the course was in much better shape than I expected. Fairways were decent, greens were far from great but WAY better than when I last played there. Still won't be in a hurry to go back but really can't complain.

That day was brutal. I don't care if you're a +1 or a 25 HC. Just try and keep pace. But that rough though at Ventana. It'll eat you up!

It's been a couple years but yeah I've played there a few times. Great track. Pretty tough and the greens are always immaculate.

Greens at Starr Pass today were roooooooooough! Don't think they could mow them due to the rain. Rattler was cart path only because of the storms. Other than the greens, the course is decent.

For the price, I think El Rio is wonderful! Plus, the way I am playing now (I blame my recovery from surgery) I really like that on most holes you can hit it anywhere, find it, and play it. I find the greens to be pretty consistent, and pretty smooth, generally. And I like that the rough isn't thick Bermuda, like the Randolph complex!

My dad recommended Ventana and it looks like they have some GolfNow deals under $40.

Played Starr Pass again on Monday. $13. Greens were still a little tough but at that price you can't beat it.

IMO you can't go wrong with Ventana. I've never played the course in bad condition, and considering the amount of $ they put into it every year for overseed, it is definitely worth the money esp now in the summer time. I wish I could get a round in with you on Friday but I have to work that night and sleep till about 1-2pm.

More like he had to put up with my "golf" at Starr Pass JK. It was a great day yesterday. 3 hour round, no one in site. I haven't played Starr Pass in about 8 years so I had no recollection of the course. I'm used to shooting 72-78 at most of the courses in town. Yesterday was a humbling experience to say the least. But I have an urge to go back now. Thanks again to Lefty and stay safe out there!

I played it last week and it was in great shape, greens fast and true (bent grass), fairways nice, couple of brown spots, but I wouldn't complain. Bunkers were a little firm, But there'd been a pretty good rain a day or 2 before.

Loved the layout and the views. They were getting ready to prep for fall, but not until the end of Sept if i remember correctly.

Sewailo is in BEAUTIFUL shape right now. Greens were running a tad slower than normal (but true as can be) and some spots on the course were a little soggy but past that it was amazing. Shot a 78 which was good enough for low gross. I almost forgot how pretty the course was.

I teed off at about 8 and it wasn't bad. We had 4 somes ahead of us but never had to wait a long time. Finished in about 3.5 hours which was surprising as hell.

With so many courses down for overseeding, prices are going to go up, I guess. And then, one would think, it should get less hot! But what can we complain about, we can golf almost any day of the year!

Had the awesome opportunity to play The Gallery North Course yesterday. I'd never played out there before but damn that course was awesome. Greens were a tad slow but receptive and rolled true. South is closed for over seed right now.

Playing Del Urich tomorrow. My club played there Sunday and everyone said the overseed took really well. Greens were a little grainy but that’s to be expected. Walking by it though it looks in really good shape. Should be fun.
