Brandel Shares His Thoughts On Tiger (again)

Now that I think about it, my high school English teacher never wrote a classic either. I knew she was worthless.

From now on, the only ones qualified to discuss anything are those that can objectively be identified as the #1 ranked participant in what is being discussed.

Or is there an arbitrary line out there? One major? 2? A handful of major top tens plus 5+ tour wins?

What is acceptable christosterone?

Time after time on this site, people are critical of someone that hasn't performed at the highest level offering opinions of another person. It's an opinion. Chamblee has more credibility than probably anyone on this site. He HAS played at the highest level and he does his research to back up his opinions. He doesn't get it right all the time, but more than most.

This ^^^^!

As much as it pains me to say this, I'd take Johnny Miller over Brandel Chamblee. At least Johnny had the game to back up his comments.

Using that logic, then Haney, Harmon, Ledbetter etc have no business teaching golf to PGA tour pros.

One, we're talking about announcers, not teachers. I guess you missed that.

Two, this is GolfWRX, where logic goes out the window.

I'm glad Chamblee speaks his mind. I might not agree with him 99% of the time, but that doesn't mean he's always wrong. The guy is paid to give his opinion and does it well. Why all the hate? Reading some of the comments on this forum about Chamblee, you'd think the guy came over to a bunch of golfwrxers homes and insulted their mothers.

With that said, I do hope Tiger comes back sooner rather than later because that's good for the game of golf.

Yes it's true brandel is pompous, but his opinions are based by analytical critical thinking.

I would call it confident and not pompous, with opinions based by analytical critical thinking indeed.

Just curious Chris, how many times have you been on TV behind a desk with an actual opinion? Should they fire Jim Nantz? He has no pro experience at all.

But, Nantz does play by play. Imo, it doesn't matter if the PBP guys played or not. But, the commentator? Very important that he's had success at the highest level.

I take it you are a better broadcaster than Brandel? Otherwise you have to realize the hypocrisy, right?

The whole "you aren't as good a player so you can't comment" argument is so old and tired. Most commentators and most coaches in all sports are generally average players, students of the game if you will.....generally they had to work harder because they didn't have the natural talent, but understand the game.

Brandel has an opinion, and that is his job, by blowing up the internet complaining he is accomplishing exactly what he wants to do, create controversy and discussion. So congrats for helping Brandel accomplish his goals.

Skip Bayless accused Troy Aikman of being gay…

Who would you rather commentate on football?

Brandel Chamblee has made insufferable comments about Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods over the years...

Who would you rather have commentate on golf?

Of course one need not be one of the greatest of all time to be a good commentator…Peter Jacobsen, Curtis Strange, Paul Azinger are excellent IMHO

But when you tout yourself as someone who understands Tigers mind because you slept on the lead after round 1 at Augusta in 1999(as Brandel has done) then I call into question your ability to judge reality...let alone comment on it..

-Chris.

ANYONE then skip bayless. ANYONE.

FOR ANYTHING.

I will say this:

When Sean Foley decided the weaken Tigers grip on every shot( including chipping) I wanted him arrested for defacing a national treasure...

Any human who thought Tigers chipping and/or putting needed to change should have either been put in a straight jacket or tried for war crimes...

-Chris

Does any of this fall on tiger's shoulders?

Ever? Or is it ALWAYS someone else's fault?

Oh my. I should have posted this prediction... Brandel would write a critical Tiger article and the Brandel haters would go nuts.

Yes it's true brandel is pompous, but his opinions are based by analytical critical thinking.

Brandel has built his career the past 7 years by being the loudest, most persistent Tiger hater out there. Every few years he gives Tiger credit for something, but the incidents where he has let it get too personal and over the line are too well known to ever think he is being objective or generally responsible on the subject of Tiger.

Brandel plays a character on golf channel. He knows what is expected of him and he delivers a far better performance then he's even been capable of doing with the golf club in his hands. I give him props he plays the role well and I think it keeps things interesting.

Exactly. He is at times playing the "pro" wrestling version role of a heel. Appears that it works. Frequently.

Apologies if this has been previously posted.

Wow! Brandel says no one has ever come back from the chipping yips and he thinks Tiger is done.

Please edit title to say Brandel. (Spell check error)

Branded is just doing his job, which is to share his opinion from time to time on the top storylines. Yes, they do actually pay him for this.

This title should never have (again) in it bcause till Tiger calls it quits, Tiger will always be a walking top news story so Brandel will (again) chime in.

You don't have to like him or his opinions, but respect that it's his job and someone in GC cuts him a check for what he does and have been for quite a while to boot!

Actually iirc that whole deal was on Tiger not Foley. He was the one saying he needed all of his "release patterns" to match. Funny he did not do that when he switched from Harmon to Haney.

He shoots, he scores!

I have gone through the short game yips and still go through it time to time. For its shots from 30-50 shots off tight lie and little pitch shots. I have lost ability to hit these shots well. But I have figured out a way to pull them off. When occur its because I don't practice as much as I should.

The issue I believe with Tiger is, he doesn't put the time in any more. When players who practice alot, stop practicing, their game goes to shambles. Sure they can figure out the long game and full shots and get around. But they lose feel with chipping, and putting becomes two putt central. Look at guys on tour who had some success here and there, but once they have families and such their game goes to crap, they struggle to find any form.

Golf is a very tough sport to be a professional at. Your careers are so long and if you have one bad year, they will criticize you forever. Most pro golfers start their career at 20-22 and then play til 40s, if not 50s. That is 20-35 year career. In most other sports your lucky to get 10 years.

Tiger at this point is like the 40 year old virgin afraid to pop his cherry. He just needs to go ahead and do it. I don't believe he has the yips. He just doesn't want a repeat of the past. Shooting a 75 doesn't do his legend any good, although we all want to just see him play.

Brandel is like the 40 year old virgin who just got some. He wants to exhibit his knowledge even though he is still clueless...

That is how I see it.

The Navy Seals would have none of this "mental breakdown" on the chipping front. Power through it come hell or high

water Tiger is what they would say.

Just lacks the utmost determination he once had in spades. Back in the old days he he could have crushed these fears and yips.

The new chapter that is today's Tiger can not target the problem in his mind, and probably will never again. I agree with what Brandel is

saying.

These days Tiger I feel has one tenth the drive he had back 15 years ago pertaining to his golf performance.

Like it was said by someone early on in one of these latest Tiger threads, Be working on being the best Dad now, and enjoy the holidays.

I would add build a hospital and give back to the game more now than you ever have before. Double your charitable efforts Tiger,

and think more of others around you.

Try being a little more like Arnie, and care less about your (THIS) comeback. Personally refund any person who bought a ticket to the Safeway Tourney because of you, and wants their money back.

The reality surely will set in one of these days for Tiger that he's not going to capture his golf performance of old. Shift gears and adjust man.

At least we still have Phil for a bit longer.

Tiger suffers from overtinkering and now he can't find his original muscle memory. Toss in a fire hydrant and all his MMA injuries and you have a recipe for disaster.

Would love to see him be able to come back and win a few and give a great big middle finger to all the Tiger haters but that is going to be a tall order, even for him.

Not one, never have been one. Pretty lame response to start painting with the "fan boys" brush.

Brandel doesn't "dare" do anything, he's hardly courageous. It's the unwarranted and extremely personal attacks Brandel has made from time to time that have caused me to dislike him as a commentator. Almost all of those have been directed at Woods, whether it was his personal life, unjustified accusations re rules, etc.

No respect for someone who has gotten the most attention for himself on GC and helped his own career by tearing someone else down - and if it's calculated just to be "that guy" on GC it only makes less appealing.

If you're not a Tiger fanboy, then it's guilt by association. WRX lights up with hate toward anyone that judges Tiger's performance or actions through a critical lens. Brandel is paid to write and comment, and he does so very well, and backs his opinions with facts and data. Brandel's comments here were spot on. He doesn't sugar coat for anyone, and that seems to really piss off the ardent Tiger fans who's interest in golf seems to resolve around one person.

A buddy of mine has the chipping yips real bad. I actually dont even know if you can call them the yips, because half the time he whiffs. He has this stabbing motion where the clubs hits the ground behind the ball, and either stops or pops up over the ball. He did it 3 times in a row on the same shot last weekend. I couldnt believe my eyes. My point is, I dont think hes ever coming back. Other than chipping hes a pretty good golfer.
