I really thought that this would be P Reeds week, riding on the coattail of a great Ryder Cup. +5 after the first round, I really didn't expect that and i'm beginning to think that the guy is just another Poulter.

 

Reed has three more PGA Tour victories in 89 fewer events played.

 

But he is right, if he doesn't win a Major he will be remembered as the American Poulter

 

Whether he wins a major or not, how can you call Reed the "American Poulter?"

 

By the time Reed reaches Poulter's current age of 40, his accomplishments on tour will dwarf those of Poulter.

I'm not too keen on Poulter but I do like Reed.

 

None of this changes the random thought I had earlier. Without a major they will both be remembered for whoopin' and hollerin'. Or something like that.

I don't have a link to support it but Rory made an All World birdie on a par 5 last night.

 

He missed wide right with his second. On his third shot, he hit a low one under the trees, over a water hazard, into a green side bank stopping it pin high 12' from the hole. Even for the pros, this was an outstanding shot.

I imagine the Japanese press will ask every player in the media tent about Matsuyama.

 

I still wonder how these guys are getting passes into the press center. I will give them a thumbs up though because its pretty funny when they ask their only question to all the players.

It is a good course, because it gives all types of players a good chance, and because the lay-out can create exciting finishes.

It is a strong field as well.

But the terrible Blade Runner-like atmosphere of a megacity simply saps all fun out of it. The smog, the dreary sky, the question, if the moisture in the air is water or maybe something completely different and possibly dangerous, the constant honking of people who believe that their cars only run, when they blow the horn.

After watching it for two hours or so, you'll get depressed, no matter how good the golf is.

The Race to Dubai gets interesting now. With Stenson leading and McIlroy not playing in Turkey he'll fall further behind. He has to play in South Africa now. Does anyone know Stenson's schedule?

Interesting to see how Matsuyama will do being up top of the leaderboard by three shots. I think it's fair to say that Knox likes this course. With 78-79, the same cannot be said for Jimmy Walker. I like Walker but his good week at the PGA (great week to have a good week), his form seems to have been pretty wretched.

 

BTW what the h*ll happened to Scott.

 

 

69-80! Shooting that makes you wonder if he wanted there to be a cut or not. That must be his worst score in quite some time.

 

And then he goes a shoots 64, 66. Who know what was in his head during that second round. He does seem to have one round in most tournaments that lets him down.

I don't know about you, but I have been to twenty different countries in the past 15 years. But Asian cities with 20+ million inhabitants are not on top of my bucket list, that's right. Neither are artificial cities around the Arab (or Persian) gulf which have been hammered out of the desert in the last 20 years. Too many other more beautiful destinations to choose from. And neither travel documentaries on TV nor TV coverage of a golf tournament like that will change that I am afraid.
