I play "here" 3x a week. Perfect golfing weather lately. First couple of holes today I had a vest on, and the rest of the round in a polo and shorts. Mesquite is typically 4-5 degrees warmer. I think it got up to 76 today.

Where are you playing?

Hey RS, if I can remember the list its the Palms, Conestoga, Falcon Ridge, and Casablanca in Mesquite. Coyote Springs south of Mesquite, and Coral Canyon and Sand Holow in St George. This year part of the group is leaving a day early to go to Vegas for the Wyoming/UNLV football game, so we thought we'd leave early too and try to play Saturday at the Ledges. That's your course isn't it? I've never played it.

Yes, and the course is in really great shape now. (Other than a few distressed areas not in play that happened when the course lost a pump for 7-8 weeks in a the summer.)

You have a good line up of courses. Coyote Springs is nice but it's in the middle of nowhere. As the crow flies it's closer to Area 51 than civilization.

Yeah, we just play 18 a day so driving down there isn't too much of a problem. Last year is was about 45* and windy when we played there, the course beat us up pretty badly. Hope for a much better day this year.

Any problems getting a time at the Ledges on Saturday?

Well, it depends. My buddy and I normally play Sat mornings but it's so busy tomorrow we can't get on until after 1:00. Depending on the size of your group you should probably call in advance.

Hey RS, Ledges has a tournament on Saturday, so no go there.

Would you recommend Sunbrook or should we have our pro call and see if we can get on Entrada?

Or is there somewhere else we should think about.

Entrada is much better, so if you can, I would choose it 10 out of 10 times.

Entrada is nice if you can get on. It's not one of my favorite courses though. I'm not saying it's not a nice course because it is. It's not worth <$100 fees IMO.

Sunbrook is good, but it's nothing special. 27 holes but not known for views or scenery.

If you're looking for a cheap place to play check out Sky Mountain. City owned with some of the best views in the area. I think it's like $40 with range balls and lunch.

We'll take a look at that one too. I was surprised how high the green fees were at Oasis in Mesquite, $135. Wolf Creek was just $45 more.

Not really. Sunbrook is probably rated higher than Sky Mountain, but I like Sky Mountain better. When you get on the back 9 the holes overlook the Virgin River and they are spectacular. Bring your camera worthy. Sunbrook not so much, although the course is in good shape. If I were to bring a buddy from out of town we'd play Sky Mountain. Plus you get a fair lunch.

We booked Sky Mountain for Saturday morning. RS any chance you could get away for a round during the week? We may need a player for Coral Canyon ormSand Hollow. Maybe both. Don't have the exact dates for each yet.

Played coyote last Saturday. It was in great shape. Great weather. This time of year most of the courses are in good shape. Have fun. I think you'll enjoy all of the courses.

.

Las ear at Coyote it was about 45* and windy. The course won. I want revenge!! It's my favorite course on the trip.

OP

Have dinner at the Painted Pony....really nice place and Zagat rated.

Found it by accident in 2004...my wife and I had a nice dinner.

What time of food do they serve? Very unsophisticated palates in this group!

Another vote for Sky Mountain.....walkable, good value and great scenery....played it in 2004.

That's where we're playing. But no walking for this bunch.

I've lived here 7 years and never been to The Painted Pony. It's considered the stuffy place that serves little portions of infusion stuff. I'll PM you a list of my favorites. Large meaty portions where you don't have to change out of your golf clothes.

Go to the Gun Barrel, good steak at a good price. Sky Mountain is a steal as long as the pace of play is good.

Earliest tee time I could get was 11:23 so I'm guessing it's pretty full in front of us. I doubt that the three hour rounds we're accustomed to will be happening.

I'm not sure what time we'll get in Friday night, about a12 hour drive. Wonder how late places stay open?

Like I said, not a fancy group. We'll eat pizza and wings at Playoffs in Mesquite a couple of times, and Mexican at Los Lomas (I think that's the name). Red Robin works great for us in St George.

Casual fine dining.

St. Georges #1 ranked restaurant....great reviews by tripadvisor and yelp.

As I said....my wife and I found it by accident and enjoyed our dinner.

But as you said...not likely suitable for your group's taste.

We had finished playing golf for the day and we were looking for a place for dinner.

Stopped into a casual restaurant...but after waiting 10 minutes without anyone coming to our table...we left and by accident found the Painted Pony.

I was in my golf clothes as was my wife....and we were greeted and seated without hesitation.

IMO..it was far from stuffy.

The $25-$36 dinner main entrees are very reasonably priced for a restaurant of this caliber...not every diner is looking for quantity vs. quality.

In fact...their lunch menu is extremely well priced....$11 for a grilled tenderloin burger with your choice of fries or salad and/or clams and linguine for $11 just to name a few.

St. Georges is a golf destination....I'm sure a lot of golf vacationers who are willing to drop $80-$150 on a green fee at courses like Estrada, Ledges or Sand Hollow would have no issues paying $25-$36 for a dinner entree.....which is likely the main target market of the Painted Pony....most of the reviewers on tripdadvisor and yelp are non-residents.

And no....I'm not the type of consumer that needs to eat and stay or play golf at expensive restaurants or hotels or courses...it's just that we found a restaurant that my wife enjoyed and quality for the amount spent.
