In fact one of our guys made a hole in one on #15. He was in the group behind so we were up above on the cart path watching.

Reviews from last weekend

 

Sand Hollow- Great course- the layout was awesome and I think one of the best courses in Utah. There are some good holes on the course and some great holes. The par 3 15th from between the rocks is one of the best par 3's I have played. The first and 10th green are having fungus issues and the pace of play was just ok.

 

cons- We had a slow group in front of us with empty course ahead and the marshals were told and didn't seem to care.

 

*if you don't play this course then you are missing out.*

 

 

The ledges- Good course and standard resort style course on the front 9. The back nine has some really cool holes.

 

con's- Hole 16 was still under construction. This would be a great hole but is really dumb as a par 3. Pace was also just ok. We waited at every tee box as a group of 4.

Sand Hollow is on my list of top 5 courses, IMHO a must play. What are they doing to 16? Par 5 with semi blind tee shot and split fairway, IIRC.

I work at the Ledges and the construction on 16 is done. The seed won't be planted until April or when it warms up.

 

They moved a lot of dirt, created a brand new elevated tee box and made it a driver hole. It used to be a 180-195 tee shot over bunkers and then another 180 to a layup wedge position. Anything long off the tee ran into the hazard no matter how straight you were unless you could bast it 315+ to a tiny area. The fairway is now built up where it adjoins the drop off which should allow a longer tee shot.

 

The remodeled fairway is not split, however they did clean much of the brush on the right side of the cart path so you should be able to find slices as there is room before the OB stakes.

Not sure, but I'll ask the Super. Hopefully it will be back to a par 5, but it's worth playing even when the hole is a temp par 3.

I've lived here 7 years and never been to The Painted Pony. It's considered the stuffy place that serves little portions of infusion stuff. I'll PM you a list of my favorites. Large meaty portions where you don't have to change out of your golf clothes.

We had finished playing golf for the day and we were looking for a place for dinner.

Stopped into a casual restaurant...but after waiting 10 minutes without anyone coming to our table...we left and by accident found the Painted Pony.

 

I was in my golf clothes as was my wife....and we were greeted and seated without hesitation.

IMO..it was far from stuffy.

 

The $25-$36 dinner main entrees are very reasonably priced for a restaurant of this caliber...not every diner is looking for quantity vs. quality.

In fact...their lunch menu is extremely well priced....$11 for a grilled tenderloin burger with your choice of fries or salad and/or clams and linguine for $11 just to name a few.

 

St. Georges is a golf destination....I'm sure a lot of golf vacationers who are willing to drop $80-$150 on a green fee at courses like Estrada, Ledges or Sand Hollow would have no issues paying $25-$36 for a dinner entree.....which is likely the main target market of the Painted Pony....most of the reviewers on tripdadvisor and yelp are non-residents.

 

And no....I'm not the type of consumer that needs to eat and stay or play golf at expensive restaurants or hotels or courses...it's just that we found a restaurant that my wife enjoyed and quality for the amount spent.

 

Thanks for posting this. Planning a golf trip to St. George for me and the wife and this place looks amazing. Definitely gonna go there at least once while in town.

our final course selection looks like Coral Canyon, Sunbrook, SandHollow/Ledges, Sky Mountain

I was able to play sky last week and it is in great shape but not too challenging of course. I do have some questions on the courses.

 

Sunbrook, Which 2 nines are the best to play?

 

San Hollow, They are saying only spike aerification in early may so If anyone has course condition updates let me know.

Love to visit Sky Mountain with my husband. Here is sooo beautiful nature! The Virgin River cut a fifteen hundred foot gorge across the northern border of this course which adds yet another wonderful coating of opinions into the rich mixture. Golfers find panoramic features on pretty much every single hole: twisted displays of profoundly colored sandstone, streams of black lava stone overlaying the countryside, the granite surface of Pine Valley Mountain along with the occasional thousand foot waterfalls which look throughout seasonal temptations and following rainstorms.
