Yoro Mizuno MP66....wow

Just received this email from a JDM site. It's the Yoro version of the Japanense only model the Mizuno MP66, a redundant MP64. From the text the Yoro version has got slightly less offset, and sharper top grinding then the retail version. Can't lie from a visual standpoint, perfect IMHO.

 

Serioysly nice looking iron. Not sure if they put tungsten in the head's perimeter like an AP2 (didn't notice it in reading about it)? But if a company could sneak a bit of tungsten or whatever to boost forgiveness in head that looks this good, it'd be a home run IMO (I'm a 6 handicap, and would love to game a set looking like this, but probably not practical for my ability, but a guy can dream lol).

if you subract all the hullabaloo with the "Yoro Craft" job done to it you still got one hell of an MP iron! it's an embarrassment the verdict was US consumers couldn't be trusted with MP66 AND the MP25. anyways, thank you for the link in the OP!

 

(fwiw there is zero tungsten gonna be slanthered on the perimeter of that golf club)

Oh I know. I was just stating that they look great, but unfortunately probably not practical for me and my handicap. These are without a doubt what the MP line is all about, just a straight simple (meaning no crazy badging and and colors), classy, forged iron.

Yup those are absolutely killer. Love the hard angles and boxed toe. It's a lot like my Scratch TD wedges but my wedge are more sharp and box toed. Really wish that look caught on over here.

Was at the Mizuno store in Osaka yesterday. Lots of nice clubs. It's amazing that for all the work they do on irons, woods and wedges, they can't make a single decent looking putter. Absolutely atrocious designs. And I couldn't find any clothes that fit. XL - too small in the shoulders. XXL sleeves that almost reach my fingers.

 

Also, OP the 66s are plenty forgiving for a 6 handicap, I would think, but you could always go with the 55s, basically a combo set with more forgiving long irons. I'm thinking of going with these as I get to play all of 2-3 times a month.

Honestly probably could, but my AP2's are just so forgiving. These MP66 have some offset pressed out of them, in normal setting they'd be pretty close in profile. I think they'd both play very similar, MP66 may feel more pure on pured shots, but I think my AP2 will help the slight miss hits. But that's JMHO, obviously I haven't seen or hit these so it's just a complete guess going off the pics.

The square toe is the perfect look. I'm not sure why most manufacturers don't go with that on most models. I was very close to going Yoro on my MP55s, but I was too impatient. Nonetheless they're still killer. Mizuno better have something special up their sleeve with next year's U.S. MP release or just bring the 66s.

My bank account will hate me but I have a feeling that if the MP-4's turn out as good as I hope MP-66's will be on the way this summer/fall.
