Totally agree! He seems to look out for things that others aren't doing and runs with it...well walks, I've never seen him get round a golf course quickly so I guess he doesn't like running with anything.

Actually, he was a physics major, not engineering. And I don't believe he completed his degree since he turned pro early.

I was out at his former homeclub (I'm from his hometown) and was saw his coach Mike Schy out there teaching this to a few people. This was a couple months ago and I had asked if he was going to switch over to it. He confirmed it as yes. I believe he is being mentored in it by a guy named Randy Haag. He is one of the best NCGA players of all time, played in some senior opens and a 6 time olympic club champion who putts like this. We will see how it goes.

Pretty odd to me that a kid ( even for DeChambeau ) would use that putting stroke in tournament golf.

 

I'm not going to say it won't work but will by very surprised if it does.

At least the fan boys can putt that way for a few weeks without spending a thousand bucks on a special Bryson-approved set of irons.

I know a guy who putts a lot like this, even has a one of a kind putter, and he's honestly the best putter I've ever seen. Guy never misses from 6 feet and in. His lags aren't the best but it doesn't matter if you literally make everything from 6 feet and in.

I'm betting that he putts very well this way or at least on the shortish putts. I can't say I have ever seen someone grip a face on putter like that but it looks like there would very little face rotation in that stroke. He might start a trend with the former anchorers if successful but if he is too successful the governoring bodies will outlaw it as well

He's probably talking about DragonFly GC, that's where Mike Schy is the Head Pro and its decked out in all Cobra/Puma on the range. Probably the best course in the Fresno Area, minus the CC's. I used to be a member out at Belmont and I heard some wild stories about how Bryson would play some of the holes.

I believe it was Dave Pelz who said the best putter he ever saw putted side saddle. I do believe that Bryson wants to be different, because he certainly is. Personally, I think his swing is ugly as sin and the side saddle makes him look like a fool. HOWEVER, if he plays well and wins then it doesn't really matter.... but his swing will still be ugly.

Bryson ought to be the patron saint of all the hackers out there watching YouTube videos, reading advice in forums, trying every swing tip they see on Golf Channel and spending a lifetime trying to "learn" enough mismatched half-baked theories to somehow become a great golfer.

 

There ain't enough days in a lifetime to master the boring old conventional way of playing golf. Never have understood why some people think they can invent something brand new and master it instead.

Yes Dragonfly. I did grow up playing at Belmont though, if you have length you can use other fairways etc. to get around. Pretty fun.
