GX7 X metal?

I got an email the other day which linked to a website advertising the GX7 X metal driver replacement club. looks as though it's kind of a mini driver but has a special sole enabling it to be hit easier from the deck. I watched some of the videos of mostly older golfers hitting it & the sound off this club was very pleasing. So it at least has that going for it. I'm sure I'll be looking on the bay for it in the spring.

 

Anyone else get this email or know anything else about this club? Anyone actually demo it?

The idea may help many of us that don't have higher club head speed. The length alone may prove a it's biggest feature.

Smaller head, extreme heel/toe and back weighting, Hot face, higher loft and reduced turf interaction. Looks like it would work well for their target customer which is the senior/am with lower SS.

 

High SS players should not apply. But the guy does admit it's not for those types of players from the very beginning.

I actually called them this past Thursday & I was on hold for just a few minutes & someone picked up. I gave them my name & they looked up my order. My order in particular because I'm left handed was not filled yet. They told me they just got a shipment of 500 clubs in a day or so earlier but no left handed clubs. If your a right handed golfer your order may have shipped. They did say the next shipment would have some left handed clubs due right before xmas but I probably wont get it until after new year. I would just call the 800 number on Monday to see what's up with your order specifically.

I've seen the advertisement on television. The ad is filmed at Seven Canyons Golf Club in Sedona, AZ. I used to live about 3 miles from there. The most beautiful course I've ever seen. Every hole is a post card. I recognized the red rock mountains, driving range and clubhouse. The ad is filmed from the far end of this range facing the regular tee boxes.

 

Sorry, I know nothing about the golf club, but thought it was cool I recognized the course. The golf pros wife used to be the manager for our bed and breakfast.

Quit searching and go get fit. And I mean REALLY fit, not just going down to Dicks/Golftown/etc. and hitting balls into a screen with different clubs while a salesperson watches and then tapes up and hands you clubs. Go to an actual fitter. He/she will probably deal in clubs that you have never heard of, but they will be as good as any brand name, if not better. But then, even a bad club that fits you will perform better than a "great club" that doesn't.

 

I am saying all this from experience. I played to a similar handicap to yours, even though I have golfed a long time, received alot of training right from a young age, have a really good swing, and I'm a good ball striker. My driver, however, was always a wild card. I was long, but anything could happen, and on about 5 drives per round, that anything was bad. In fact, it got to the point that I quit carrying a driver; I played some of my lowest scores without one. But I kept getting lured back to the driver because I missed "the long ball" and I hated being shortest off the tee, even if I was in the fairway almost all the time (it was also taxing the rest of my game having to hit mid- and long-irons into greens instead of short-irons). Each time I went back, the troubles began again.

 

To that point, I had never been fit because it was "too expensive." Instead, I had about 10 different drivers in my basement. Now THAT is expensive. By chance, I met a fitter who was passing away from Cancer. He talked me in to going out and letting him fit me because he wanted to get rid of his stock so that his wife didn't have to deal with it later. WOW! I didn't realize how significantly a shaft/head/grip combination affected your game and how significant the change was once you were fit into the right setup. I literally went from losing 3-5 balls (and 6-10 strokes) a round, to throwing balls out after a couple of rounds because I had beaten them up so badly. My handicap dropped like a rock and my enjoyment of the game skyrocketed.

Thanks for your input. I have been fitted before. For me hitting the driver is not a "go get fit- it will magically make you an awesome driver of the ball" kind of problem. It's a mental thing for me. You had the benefit of good instruction at an early age & probably have a repeatable swing. I have had limited instruction & am working on a repeatable swing. Hit the driver decent on a simulator & range but on course lose swing speed & confidence thus do not hit good drives. Getting fit is not a cure all solution for me.

I am more or less in your boat as well with the exception that my swing speed is more around 95mph. I am 77 yrs old and am tired of giving away all those shot from errant drives. Because this is a no-lose situation with the 60-day free trial I decided to give it a test. The results are getting better with each round played, I have used it three times now and the results are, Rnd. #1 hit 4 of 7 FW's, Rnd. #2 hit 9 of 14 FW's, Rnd #3 hit 12 of 14 FW's. The misses in general, were just off the FW. I play with guys younger than myself who can get it out there pretty good and I am right there quite close to them. I am on average 10-15 yds short of my old driver but the ball is in play. The biggest adjustment has been in determining the correct height to tee the ball as evidenced in the progression of FW's hit in the numbers above.

Before you spend money on this club I suggest that you first get a copy of Tom Wishon's book: The Search for the Perfect Driver and/or his book: The NEW Search for the Perfect Golf Club. I guarantee you will not be disappointed, and you will be much better informed, no matter what you think you know about golf clubs currently. I also highly recommend his website and the articles published on it, particular his comments on adjustable hosel drivers.

 

I just started playing golf at age 69. After reading his books, I went to one of his certified clubfitters in my area and was fitted for a driver with a 13° loft, a 43 1/4 inch shaft tailored to my swing speed (which is approximately 84 to 86 miles an hour with the driver), and his GRT face, which basically means that there is no roll on the driver face; thus, any miss-hits high or low on the face do not greatly affect the launch angle. I have taken a few lessons and practiced with Mike Bender's MEGSA equipment, which gives great and immediate feedback. With that driver, a Wishon 919, I hit for more fairways then I miss, and I get a carry of approximately 200 to 210 yards when hit squarely. Miss hits on the heel or toe carry nearly as far due to the GRT. The cost of that driver completely fitted was only $325, far less than the major brand drivers cost. As far as I'm concerned, being fitted by Club maker who knows what he is doing is far more beneficial than listening to hype from manufacturers, golf shops, or the big box stores. My suspicion is that a driver properly fitted for you, with the correct loft and shaft for your swing speed will out perform that GX7 3 metal, and most likely any driver made by Tailor Made, Ping, Titlest, etc., which most likely will be an improper loft and length for most amateur golfers let alone the more mature ones. I sure haven't noticed many golfers, including some 20 years younger than me, that hit the ball any further or more accurately with their major brand drivers. As far as I can tell, many of them are merely supporting the advertising budgets of those major manufacturers.

My brother in law just got one. We played today and he struggled with it. It worked okay for him as a fairway wood but he ended up going back to his old driver. He was hooking it quite a bit. He said your your supposed to swing down like an iron off the tee and he's having a hard time adjusting. It is a nice looking club.

I can agree with everything that you have said in your post. Since my initial post on this subject, the achieved results as mention deteriorated a bit. I found it troublesome finding the correct tee height consistently and the results began to show.

 

 

I have since returned the club for a full refund which in fact they did process promptly.

 

I have replaced that with a club that I had made that used the Thriver XV Mini Driver head,

I had this club finished at 43" as well and so far it is performing quite nicely. It too is a 13* head but with the shaft I chose I find that it does not launch as high as the GX-7 but more like a regular driver.

 

In addition, I have taken my previous Titleist driver and am having that cut down to 43.5".

 

I believe that the trend will be towards drivers with shorter shafts that are easier to control. You are already seeing that happen on the PGA tour.

It looks like it's simply strong 3 wood with a shorter possibly more upright shaft.

Actually, I will answer my own question. I bought one on a whim, or for Mrs. gvogel.

 

There is in fact some offset, and the face appears to be a bit closed. Perfect for her!

 

I picked the Senior shaft for her, and it appears to be pretty soft from waggling it.

rdI had one for a short period of time and returned it think exactly as you that I could find one on Ebay if I desired. It does what they claim that it does. I returned it figuring that it would be on Ebay. I w one last week that old for $311.00, imagine that when it is being sold for $199.00! I build a similar club using an Acer Mini Driver head. Like that much better.

I purchase the GX7 for a trial run, and was not impressed. I'm a 10 handicap, and have about a 95mph swing speed with the driver. I hit it about 30 times, and it goes about the length of my 5 metal. May not be the same for you, but for me, it was a dud.
