Failing to plan

Thinking about a loner's last minute 3-day to Vegas. If so, probably at the Luxor or Mandalay Bay, no car. Would want to hit at least eighteen, possibly another 9 or 18 on top.

 

As can be told by my nick, I am just getting up to speed on the game, and was hoping for advice / thoughts on:

1. Other places to consider staying.

2. What courses would be best so I'm not angering everyone around (Grabbing first tee time & hoping for a duo or trio to save time.

3. Choice of resort, or if there are others I should seriously consider.

4. Whether anyone wants to play host to a 100+ stroke golfer.

 

5. If anyone has experience on whether it's worth checking clubs for this vs renting when I get there. If I only hit 18, it looks to be an even split cost-wise. But I don't know on hassle, quality of rental clubs, and whether the baggage fees would be higher if the hard-case is "oversized."

p.s. Current thought based on too little research would probably be Angel's Park Palm as I seem to recall that being locationally easier to get to without car, and is supposed to be partially shielded from winds to help a bad golfer out.

Angel Park has two pretty good Palmer courses, a lighted nine-hole par 3 course and is located next door to the Suncoast hotel/casino. I stayed there for a golf trip a few years ago and it was great. Cheap rooms, and the course will send a shuttle cart over to pick you up and take you to the clubhouse. It's a ways from the Strip, but I was fine with that. It's a good choice for what you're after, logistically. Suncoast offers stay and play packages, and if you are an OB Sports card holder, pretty cheap rates.

 

As for skill level, as long as you are not slowing down other players and are observing proper etiquette, you'll rarely find a problem with anyone you would be paired with. That may mean not looking for lost balls very long or just picking up and moving along if needed. Generally, no one cares how well you play, just that you are pleasant and not holding up the group. If you feel like you're not up to speed on etiquette, you might let your playing partners know that you'd appreciate some tips on proper etiquette. Most golfers are happy to explain out the finer points to new golfers. All of us were beginners, too. :)
