This little book transformed my short game in days

Curious if anyone looked at his other book on the full golf swing?

Oh, it's free if you have Amazon Prime. I'll have to read it.

Where do you see free on Prime? It only shows $4.95 for me. Only shows free with kindle unlimited

Do you need to get Kindle unlimited to read this? It states that it will be $9.99 a month.

I got the kindle unlimited for free trial, to be billed at the end of a month if you keep it. Read the short game book and have been messing around with it. Awesome! So well written and simple.

I'm also curious about his long game book. With kindle unlimited free trial, I can check it out.

That's one option. I'm a sucker for golf books so bought it. Hardly a large expense at $6.49 CDN and, so far, I'd say it was well worth it.

I bought it. Hell I'd by magic beans if I thought they would improve my chipping and pitching.

Me too, cost me £3.95 for the kindle edition in the U.K. which by the time I have typed this will be about $1.00 the way our economy is heading OB.

So far just chipping in the house off carpet very impressive, no chunks or blades which is promising off such a tight lie and given that the chipping method at least doesn't appear to engage the bounce?

I practiced some more today and noticed that the handle of the club now somehow naturally gets a bit closer to my body and a bit more down as well (like a bunker shot). I now feel as if I could not chunk or blade the ball even if I tried. Two practice swings: looking at the imagined trajectory from the ball to the target, from the ball to the target and then hit and follow the trajectory of the ball with the eyes from impact to the target.

After 50+ years of play I'm always game for something new. On the recommendation of the OP I bought he book and took it to the range and the course for two rounds. My conclusion is that letting the head release removes all tension and the club face just flows down the line. I was so impressed that I tried it putting. Instead of the conventional "keep your head still" I allowed it to release. Contact and roll were pure. I'm going to work on this but am really excited about improving the two weaknesses in my game.

Read his book on the long game and thought it was great. He has a knack for taking out all the egghead stuff and making it accessible to the lay person. Best part, it was just as short as the short game book.

Did the full swing book go into the downswing and impact, or is it only on the backswing and transition? Thanks.

He has a section on lag on the downswing with a few drills.

His method for a backswing that's not too inside or shoulder turn too flat is really novel and fits his modus operandi of being very simple.

After a few practice sessions I hit the course last Sat. I played 12 holes. I started stiff but after 4 holes I hit so many good shots that I think it's too good to be true. I used the same head motion for the full swing and you never stop turning on your way thru the ball. I didn't make any changes to my swing, only the head thing. Now the ball striking was so good that even my buddy told me about it (I never told him about the little book LOL). And the few missed I had were always on target. I don't know what's the catch but the thing works. I'll keep you posted, especially to see if this is just a pill or it can last longer.

FYI.

Annika's head (like David Duval's) came up before impact because she moved SO WELL THROUGH THE BALL that she could not stay with her eyes on the ball. Go back and look at their swings on Youtube -- especially his -- and you'll see what I mean.

It is NOT a flaw but the result of a great move.

I wonder how it looks on video.

If you're looking at the ball and allowing your head to follow the shot, you may not be looking up prematurely... just not staying down too long artificially.

Update: Played again today and used this method from 40 yards and in. Wish I had kept my stats because I had several kick-ins. I'm a believer. Just bought Tamayo's full swing book.

Update: Used this method today and hit a little spinning wedge for eagle. Also had a chunk but I'll save that story for another day. The only issue I'm having is controlling the distance from about 30 yards to an elevated green; coming up short with spin. Need to work on it.

You DO have to look at the ball, but the moment you hit your head goes around in a way that your body keeps on turning ahead and you keep a good balance. Check Annika's swing sequence.

Allow me to elaborate.

What I've found with the full swing is if I follow the ball with my eyes I no longer slide my hip through the ball, which has always been my most serious technical flaw. If you check on Annika, you'll notice the head turning with the rest of the body. That's what I feel happens with my swing. It's an anti-slide motion. And the swing becomes so silky, refreshing almost. Lots of speed, zero tension, good compression and solid contact.

Now the caveat. I've had the same swing for around 30 years with minor adjustments. I work mostly on rythm and tempo and revise the fundamentals so if you tinker with your swing too often you'll find it difficult to add this head motion. This is my amateur experience, guys. Instructors can cast a better and professional light.

I found that adding the head movement is a very natural movement. The head wants to move. It's the heaviest part of the body. To hold it still is unnatural; definitely causes shoulder tension and can stall the swing. On You Tube watch swings of Annika, David Duval, Inbee Park and Joe Durant. As I have gotten older, my head movement on the forward swing helps me get off my right side and through the ball. I have added head movement to the short game, and I like the results so far.

Short game book arrived yesterday. Had a read and took it to the course and range today.

Unfortunately, the greens were on winter greens today and I wasn't able to get a good go on a proper green - just the rough fairway ones, and they were frozen too! However, I found that the method was easy to implement. Caught a few thin and struggled a little with distance control, but that was more down to the poor quality greens. I got better at it towards the end of the 6 holes I played, so I'm hopeful that I can get very good using it. Didn't try a bunker shot.

I think for the price of a sleeve of balls, this should be a no brainer to buy.

Curious if anyone looked at his other book on the full golf swing?

I have both books and thought the short game one was great. Improved my short game dramatically. However, for the full swing, I am confused. He suggests you turn your shoulders on a very vertical plane, such that it would be parallel to a club shaft touching your right toes and one inch forward of your left toes. And then he says that you should turn your shoulders vertically so that a club shaft across your shoulders would not have the left shoulder go out over the shaft on the ground. To do this as he describes, you would have to tilt your shoulders vs turning them. But if you look at the photos, he appears to be making a "normal" shoulder plane turn that is no where near vertical. Not flat but certainly not vertical. And he appears to have a shoulder turn that is 90 degrees to the spine, as is recommended by virtually most (all?) instructors, not vertical as he says in his descriptions.

So for those of you who have read the full swing book, is he describing the move poorly and he is just trying to get a more vertical shoulder turn vs a flat shoulder turn, or am I just not understanding this?

Thanks to anyone who has any insight into this.

There are other head-scratchers in the full swing book. For example, he says many tour pros decrease lag angle from 90 to 45 deg in the downswing (illustrated with a 2D still of a golfer laid off at P5, the classic 2D lag illusion):

Gotta hand it to him, though. He's selling e-books like hotcakes even though he's just a golf enthusiast, not a pro or even an instructor.
