Buddy Trip to Las Vegas in Nov. 2017

If this is the official "November 2017 golf in Vegas" thread, I'm heading to Vegas with a pal and looking at playing Bear's Best and Pauite Sun & Snow (we've previously played The Wolf). We're looking to fill out the trip with a cheaper round, but where the course is still in decent condition. We are also considering golf boards, which brings me to Desert Pines. Any thoughts on this course specifically? If it's a dump, we'll probably head back to Las Vegas National.

(sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, but I feel like this info is great for everyone)

Desert Pines is good enough, I played it 6 months ago and used a golfboard. The greens are not fast and they tend to get pock-marked with unfixed divots. The only other negative is that POP tends to be slower, my round on a weekday was nearly 5 hours.

Like the golfboard though, they also have them at Angel Park so that's another option.

It's ok, the majority of courses out here including Desert Pines and Angel Park gouge tourists with outrageous greens fees claiming "Pinehurst of Las Vegas" in the case of Desert Pines only to find they are nothing more than glorified muni's.

Conditions will be the same at Angel Park versus Desert Pines, the only difference is Angel Park is desert golf with forced carries and Desert Pines is target golf with tighter fairways. Both will have pock marked greens and some beat up fairways.

Ok, so final question... we've played Las Vegas National. Is that one the same par as Angel Park and Desert Pines in terms of course quality/maintenance (minus the Tiger plaques and the famous houses)?

Pretty much, it sits in a run down area so the range is beat up and is mats only. The course is challenging because of length but bunkers are hit and miss in texture. Fairways and greens would be in fair to good shape.

Even though it is prime season, you could probably get a deal on any of the 3 that offer golfboards.

Great, thanks! We can play Desert Pines for $69, so we'll probably go the route since we've already played Las Vegas National and it's comparable.

What should we choose instead?

We want an easy track for the first day.

If you're looking for a friendly starting round, I wouldn't skip Angel Park.

The Palm course is a nice track to get your week started. Plus it has a great driving range and an 18 hole putting course that's a blast.

I know it's not TPC or Wolf Creek, but I really don't understand the disdain for the course. I've played it many times for the location and the OB Sports discount and have never been disappointing by the conditions, or the personnel.

I second Wolf Creek, an experience you will NOT forget and worth the drive. I also second Shadow Creek, I'm not a big gambler though so that's what I blow my money on instead of in the casinos ;)

How about Legacy instead of Angel Park?

I'm not saying skip Angel Park. I'm saying it's a great warm up track.

As far as Angel Park VS the Legacy, The Legacy wins hands down. It's one of my favorite tracks, a US Open qualifier at times, unfortunately The Legacy was sold by OB sports this summer and the conditions may soon vary.
