This is the extent of my knowledge, pretty sure I snuck this off instagram and saved it bc I thought it was cool and I'm glad I did bc I can't find it anywhere online now. I'm sure we will see more as pics continue to come out from the show. But this post implies "TP Mills [designs] from Odyssey Golf" and I gotta say I think it's a great idea with a cool boutique feel coming to retail? Even if it's a premium/boutique price point, I don't find it unreasonable. What do ya'll think!?

Looks like they are getting someone to cover each of the segments of putters. Austin handles the regular retail (O-works), Toulon handles the high end slight custom, TP Mills handle the ultra high end custom stuff. Maybe I'm wrong but that's how it would appear. Callaway/Odyessy is make big moves this year with new players and employees trying grab market space left by Nike and the issues of Taylormade

That may be their plan.

Odyssey-affordable, standard issue

Toulon-midrange/premium to compete with Scotty's

Mills line-super premium

I would imagine they have done their bean counting before pulling the trigger and I commend them on trying different options to see what moves the needle. I have to imagine it will be "limited edition" unless they find a large market for $700+ putters touched by mills.

However, as they continue to try and innovate I still see so many people happily putting with a no frills Odyssey and standard insert who could easily afford a Scotty or Betti. Maybe they've done well enough and don't need to reinvent the wheel...

I think that is 100% their plan and it makes complete sense to me. I don't think you can say "Odyssey alone would be good enough." I think it's awesome they are trying to bring the edges of boutique/high end putters to the retail eye, even if the average consumer will look past them after checking the price tag. They know their bread is buttered by the Odyssey line, that's why they dedicate most big marketing efforts there (like the whole thing with Phil and Rory with the new insert), just as Titleist and Scotty do with their retail line and their marketing efforts.

But does that mean Scotty if going to dilute his focus from making Circle T products to sell in the gallery for 10x retail? Absolutely not, if anything Scotty himself hands off the retail work with the exception of videos and marketing materials and probably spends most of his time working on tour and one-off unique stuff. If Callaway follows that model with Mills bringing his own unique style to the mix at the highest end and Toulon filling the gap? I'd say they are giving Tileist a run for their money when it comes to business/marketing structure..

Seems like Odyssey is spending a ton of money chasing the Cameron market ? Personally, I don't feel that will happen. Toulon didn't effect that market one bit on its own, don't think they will partnered with Calloway either. Same for Mills. David makes awesome putters, but he has to commit to taking care of his loyalist and get his putters out there. Hasn't been done for some time. The proof is solely in the resell market. Everything Scotty stays the same or increases. Everybody else drops drastically. Odyssey was/is #1 on tour for a reason. I think they should stick to what got them there instead of chasing a market they can't, and shouldn't want to compete in. I'm going to keep rolling my Black Lab's and PING Anser 2's. I know they will be around for awhile. All the rest are going to join forces and still get smoked. One thing he has that none of the others don't, Is him. Like him or hate him, he is a marketing genius. I would love to see the Callaway Putter group put a 9K putter on their site to see how long it lasted. Scotty's last about 15 seconds. Along with 3-4 more 4-5K sticks. Gone in 2 minutes. Don't think I would invest a lot of money chasing that.

Scotty lucked out having the greatest player of all time not named Nicklaus use his putter. The new Camerons are garbage. I just sold a bunch of tour odysseys for prices in the range of 700 to 1200 dollars. Big profit margins there. The tour camerons are big dollar items but accquring them for less than a grand is near impossible. Very little in the way of making money with camerons. Better profits finding his old retail releases and refinishing those. I look at Odyssey like any normal company looking to grow. Looking to tap each of the 3 market segments in putters and I hope they do.

My understanding is that the deal fell through! No specifics were given as to the why it never happened. I have seen the pictures of Mills putters with an Odyssey stamps and heard that one of Odyssey Staff tour played a shape that only T. P. Mills made as to why it was going to happen.

Interesting... Would love to know the real story - I would presume that it would have something to do with the resources the Toulon brand is getting.
