Scotty Refinish

I stumbled into a used Scotty Newport Slant Neck at my local driving range. There were dings found all over the putter, but overall the putter was in reasonable shape. After trading in 24 dozen 'ditch balls' I was the owner of a $55 Scotty in need of a face lift.

During the summer I had stumbled into a thread detailing a custom torched Kingston that had been commissioned by Kalicardplayer28. I was smitten with the final results. I had gawked at oneaugusta's torched finishes before, but the contrasting colours of the neck and head on Kali's putter caught my eye.

I sent Larry images of the head from the shop floor and our journey began. The putter arrived today, just three weeks after I had shipped the head. Communication and service were exceptional.

Here are photographs detailing a few steps in the process.

After sanding, filing and polishing.

Final images. Torching and paint-fill completed. I let Larry choose the colours and love the combination. Tiffany blue, gold and white. We left a minor blemish on the bottom of the face to keep the milling intact. I adore the softened edges.

When all was finished the head only lost 2 grams of weight. This beauty tips the scales at just over 350 grams.

At present my first Scotty is curing in the basement. I installed a stepless TT shaft and a dark brown Best Grips stitch back. I also added 10 grams to the shaft tip as I like to carry my putters at 33" and 360+ grams. Images do not do this finish justice. Hues changed depending on the lighting.

A slippery slope Rad. I never paid much attention to this slot in my bag and that was a huge mistake. Make or miss, I love reaching a green with one of my putters in hand.

That's a beauty P's Daddy. Marvelous restoration on that SC. Of all the custom finishes I see on putters, like the "torched" look the best.

"Oh! What a tangled web we weave". Being a club (putter) ho is never an easy. There is always one more on the horizon to contemplate.

Beautiful job. Few questions. What type of file did you use. What grit sandpaper and also did you leave in weights while torching or torch separate. Did you quench or leave to cool itself cheers

I supplied the putter and oneaugusta (a WRX member) provided the finish. Here is a link to a thread that he began which details his stainless steel process. I don't believe that a second part was released. If you have specific questions not answered in the thread I'd reach out to oneaugusta via the PM system. I'm certain he'd provide assistance.

I did have to use small files on the Mid-Slant, one fine and one medium, not sure what the official name of those are but they are about 4 inches long and 1 inch wide. Used dremmel first then the files to smooth out before sanding process.

Total weight loss was about 2 grams. Weight loss was minimal due to everything being done by hand with no grinding or machine sanding.

Putter was cooled naturally at 75 degrees. O-rings removed on weights but yes weights finished on putter.

Was fun to see this one transform.
