Haven’t bought much at all (other than a couple cheapies) since the four Mills pieces. This seemed like a worthy purchase.

Still playing with the paintfill (changed it 3 of 4 times now 😂 ) but here is how the sixty six in blue oil turned out...Lamont handmade the flare tip tombstone on this one 😎

This is what the sapphire blue rainbow finish on carbon looks like in some sunlight. It definitely pops.

Soft deep thud at impact with solid feel. Not mushy at all and the ball really propels forward even with the deeper face milling. The carbon steel Lamont uses is awesome.

 You "propels forward" comment is interesting.  All my putters (including my Mann) are similar or same in spec ie lie and loft.  However, some seem to be hotter and "propels forward" faster.  Not necessarily the ones with a shallower face mill as well. 

 

Any suggestions as to why? Lamont maybe?

I’m not really sure why this is, but it probably has more to do with the combo of head shape and face milling together. When you find one with that soft and solid feel that isn’t mushy and rolls the ball quickly it’s a winner. I used a 2018 Scotty Select Newport 2 (the one with the floating insert face thing and the 3M tape under it) for my round yesterday to compare and it feels pretty similar to the Rattler…but it provides little to no feedback. All ball strikes on the insert part feel the same. That’s where this Rattler differs. You get a little more feedback with that nice solid soft feel. I think both the Scotty and the Rattler are quality pieces, but for some reason I seem to make way more of the shorter putts with the Rattler while the Scotty may be a bit better for long lag putts. Probably because I miss the sweet spot more on long lag putts and that insert may help keep up the pace more than a one-piece. The Rattler is the winner of the two though. Awesome putter.

Does anyone know if Lamont’s shop is open to walk ins?  I’m in Scottsdale for a work conference with some time to kill and I’ve been looking at pulling the trigger on a build.  That might be the tiniest nudge I need to get the trigger pulled.

He might be on the IR right now. He just had shoulder surgery. I messaged him last month as I was in AZ but could be back now.

 

Just do what he told me to do press my face up to the glass and look inside lol.

Update: was able to connect and meet with Lamont, he was somehow even better to chat with than every had described.  Awesome guy!  Putter process is underway.  Can’t wait to share pictures back here!

Actually ended up doing two separate builds.  Ha!  A pretty traditional stainless flow neck MA66, which was always my plan.  Then talking with Lamont I decided to have him build me a counter balance putter that I’d been wanting to buy a head and build myself, but this seemed way more fun after chatting design with Lamont on the first.  So second is a heavy carbon MA55 modified slightly to kind of a number 9ish shape.  Very excited!

Nice love the MA/66 I still need to get one at some point, now just isn't the time. He has lefty MA/55 heads? I'm pretty sure I saw something through the glass, actually give me a few min I'll post the pics I took.

So many putters, was hoping Lamont was there I wanted to get some markers since I lost mine. 

 

 

Only saw a lefty MA66 and now I'm sure that's a MA55 as well in the last 2 pics.

I actually don't remember if he has any lefty MA66 started in the shop, but he did share they can all be left or right handed based on his design.

I know if I didn't do a PLD fitting I'd probably have walked out with the lefty in the display case or maybe start a custom with Lamont but I might be going back to AZ at some point, I do want to go back. I'll just bring my gamer and have Lamont build off of that I guess.
