Why Is Left Arm Pinned To Chest Incorrect?

Is there anything wrong with swinging this way if it leads to more consistency? I'm also just more comfortable swinging this way and I played basketball and baseball and am still pretty flexible/athletic. I know this will change as I get older but I have heard many say they do not recommend swinging this way.

It's a weak move and you have to right tilt more and that puts pressure on your back and pelvis.

 

How far would you throw a frisbee left handed or how powerful would a left handed cross court backhand be?

Ghost of Snead, thanks for posting that video. I was just going to try and look for it.

 

I think, the last few years I've unwittingly been keeping my arm pinned to the chest and just kind of let my arms remain quite passive. Ball striking and distance were poor, hitting ball all over club face, very erratic. Watching the video, as Monte pointed out, there are a lot of things that have to be done to make a swing like this work. I wasn't doing any of them apparently.

 

Anyway, in man cave, last couple of weeks, been working on letting my left arm swing, come off my chest I guess. Wanted to see this video to confirm what I was working on was in the ball park. It is. Swing feels so much better, more speed, with much more consistent center, near center of club face contact than the last few years. Other than getting "arm off chest" haven't changed anything in backswing, transition etc. And, big bonus, my back doesn't hurt as much. So thank you for posting video. Saved me a lot of time. And thanks to Monte for creating video.

Thanks for starting thread. Very timely for me. If you are comfortable and consistent swinging this way with arm "pinned" to chest and you are hitting ball well why wouldn't you keep doing? Just be aware of the things that need to be done, as Monte mentioned in video, to do it correctly.
