Cheap good courses in Scottsdale/Phoenix

Hi. I will be in Scottsdale at the end of April. Looking for any good cheap courses to play. Hoping to play something $60 or under. Is this possible? Any recommendations? I don't mind driving out a little farther if the course is good and affordable.

 

Any help would be great.

Prices drop a bit on April 1 after the Spring Training blitz is over. You should be able to find hot deals on Golf Now or Tee Off no problem. Just remember that usually the further you are from civilization, the cheaper a course will be (as far as playing a better course with better conditions).

 

Troon North, TPC Stadium, etc, will all be very expensive still, but Tonto Verde, Golf Club of Estrella, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes, and Los Caballeros are all awesome courses that should be affordable. They may not be under $60, but for my money I'd rather play those for around $80 (or $60 in the afternoon) than a stale, run of the mill course in town.

Should be able to get on at Eagle Mountain in Fountain Hills under $60 if you check golfnow/teeoff, not a bad course. Or make the drive to Southern Dunes and you won't be dissapointed!

Thanks everyone for their replies. Talked to my buddies and we have decided to do one round around $100, give or take a little.

 

Any suggestions. We are about 15-20 handicap players if that makes a difference. Want a nice enjoyable course. nothing boring.

100% Southern Dunes. My favorite down there.

McDowell Mountain, verde river, Southern Dunes but it's a about an hour from Scottsdale, Longbow, Papago

Thanks everyone. I was thinking Southern Dunes. But I read some reviews that it isn't that fun for high handicap golfers. We would be playing from the white tees. Will it still be fun for 15-20 handicap golfers? Or too frustrating?

Also, how is TPC Scottsdale - Champions course? right now it is $89 for late april for some morning tee times. Is this a good price? Is this a good course?

I don't often disagree with Brian, but I do here. It's certainly not great, some very weird holes, but it's a great example of a course that visitors to the valley would consider fun and interesting while those who live here would consider not worth playing. A redeeming feature is the turn after the 9th hole which offers a fantastic view.

It's certainly not great, some very weird holes, but it's a great example of a course that visitors to the valley would consider fun and interesting while those who live here would consider not worth playing. I think we probably agree. Your points are valid. How about a "terribly designed golf course with multiple awkward holes and several pretty views" instead? :)

Lookout is not a great course by any means, but I will say this if you are swinging well and play aggressive it can be fun and offer up a lot of birdies. Every single par 5 is reachable. The problem is the bad holes are really bad. The short par 3 with the hill behind it is downright awful with the back to front slope. The dogleg left par 4 forced layup holes are not very good either. The short par 4 while fun in a casual round becomes insanely boring in tournament play because it is not worth the risk hitting into a well protected blind green off the tee

Thanks everyone for their input. So Lookout is more for the casual golfer, not the serious golfer. We were looking into that because we are playing southern dunes and wanted something different. If you have any other suggests of something different then southern dunes that isn't too far from scottsdale, that would be awesome.

Talking Stick North err Oo'dham now, WIDE fairways no water if you can find a deal on teeoff. South course errr Piipash now is a bit more manufactured but still plenty forgiving. Ambiente is a very good course but IMO harder/tighter off the tee than Southern Dunes is.

 

Whirlwind but IMO way overpriced for what it is.

Agree with most of the others above. A bad golf course with some gimmick holes. Nine and 10 are real jokes, and the split fairway hole is another moronic design. However, the practice area is great, when the tees are back so you can hit driver.

 

Try both the Wildfire courses (twilight for cheaper) or if you don't mind driving, the Wigwam isn't bad. Three course that are NOT desert.
