TaylorMade Milled Grind Wedges

TT2017

Recommended Posts

I got mine today - they look great. The whole process was pretty annoying, and unfortunately not done yet.

I ordered them and they kept getting pushed back/backordered. Whatever. I finally decide to call in about my order because I hadn't been updated in weeks, but they wedges per the most recent email should have been delivered.

Customer Service rep from TM said they didn't even have my order. They had my account and all account history, and even saw the order number I referenced for the wedges, but he said that order was "blank" and nothing will be fulfilled. OK....

I then, completely randomly got an email saying my order shipped. Yay! They're on their way!!!!

Delivered today. I ordered high bounce 56 & 60* wedges all +3/4" - the wedges were delivered and I ripped open the box in excitement. Put one to the ground to check it out and could instantly tell, these are not +3/4"

Went out to my truck to compare length to my old wedges and sure enough, they're standard length.....

A little follow up....

Contacted TM and the rep wanted to be helpful, but we weren’t on the same page. He questioned if they were really short. I said I understand his position, but I’ve never had clubs EVER that weren’t longer than standard; even my first handmdown set was +1”

I said they feel quite short and when compared to my existing wedges they’re a good 3/4-1” shorter.

His only solution was to send them back and wait for new. I expressed how I didn’t like that, as I have waited a while for these, but I understand there is nothing more they can do. He asked “what were you thinking?” And I said if I could take them to a dicks, have them lengthened and then TM credits me the bill. He thought that was an awful idea and only wanted TM to touch the irons. I get his position, but not looking to be without them another week+ when I’m losing out on good golf here in the MW

I wish they would bring back the XFT wedge again, especially the replaceable inserts. They would make long term $$$ from the insert sales alone.

showcase-lg.jpg

Love those wedges. Have both the 58/09 and the 58/12 wedges. S400 shafts in both. Also have 12 total replacement faces. Will be using these wedges for the rest of my golfing life haha.

Is there anywhere you can still get faces?

TM may be about to get in some really big trouble.

The Hi-Toe is clearly ripping off the PM grind.

The P790 is virtually identical to PXGs.

The new M4 hammerhead may as well say jailbreak on the bottom.

Their new stand back that sits flat is a complete rip off the Wilson Staff Nexus Exocage design.

I mean... their stuff is great right now, because they are just copying the best of the industry from other manufacturers.

Sorry to get off topic, but really TM?

Re-hashing something and paying royalties is one thing. Eminem is 100% paying royalties, I doubt PXG, Wilson, or Cally is seeing checks from TM.

I mean look at that hi-toe. Three ports to move weight? Even has the same u-grind...

Nothing is more obvious than that cut away of the 790s though. I know the court ruled against PXG, but they even look identical in every way beside the PXG screws.

I don’t have that big of a problem with it. If TM can do it just as good or better, let em. More competition, lower prices, more business...

Well the PM Grind ripped off the Ping Eye 2 wedge, so this seems like a non-issue. Phil was using an Eye 2 wedge (even got blamed for cheating because the grooves didn't conform) so Callaway made him the "PM Grind"

This chain of events is not exclusive to the golf industry. It applies to pretty much every competitive industry. If you can take what your competitor is doing, make it better, and sell it successfully - then go for it. As a consumer you should be applauding this behavior.

It's not competition when you are just flat ripping someone else off.

And it won't cause competition. It will cause a monopoly. If TM is allowed to let other companies do the leg work and R&D (which costs a lot of money), and then just copy their product, its actually going to run other companies out of business. This is exactly what Edisen did to all his competitors, which led to the generation of all the patent, anti-monopoly, and anti-trust laws.

It is also a business ethics issue. Stealing of intellectual property is a huge problem. And an even bigger problem is that they are allowed to argue "people make golf clubs out of metal and polymers, so its not a copyright infringement" when the product is virtually identical, even down to the shape, dimensions, and details of said design elements.

Patents on that wedge have long since expired. Additionally they went from a cavity back design to a blade. The two were different other than the toe. This is the same minus the size of the 3 cutouts... The P790 is the bigger issue. As is the fact that TM is clearly getting away with stealing design after design.

People liken this to drug patents. Many in the general public feel that drug companies charge too much for drugs, and while this is more or less an accurate statement, if you let generic manufacturers make the identical product immediately, the profitability of making a new drug would disappear.

When something is no longer profitable, nobody does it. If you want the pharmaceutical industry to stop generating new drugs that have better efficacy and less side effects, let the generic companies copy the drugs right away. It would be a surefire way to completely dismantle the industry and halt innovation in its tracts. You don't spend a ton on R&D to not turn a profit.

If TM or other companies are allowed to outright copy other patented products without repercussion, there will be no reward for investing in R&D, companies will fold, and less innovation will be seen.

You're absolutely right. To that effect I bet they perform a whole lot like the PM cally wedge... just a hunch.
