Best Irons for Diggers

Huge digger here.

 

I like to test out my stuff against one another, i will usually take a 6,8 PW of numerous sets. Had some G's, Z745's, apex pro's, Cobra bafflers, Cal Proto's MP-5's, etc.

 

The soil conditions were on the soft side and i usually take out some pretty good turf. The bafflers had the widest sole of the group and one would think they would be the most resistant to digging, not so for me. Thought i was digging my own grave. lol

 

The G's were alot better than the bafflers, but still a decent sized divot. The new G's to me are more turf friendly than my G25's and G30's.

 

The MP-5's for me that day cut thru the soil very well but with my swing they took a real healthy divot.

 

The Z745's were the best of the bunch, very shallow divots, no digging. no trenches.

 

If forgiveness is a key feature i would go with the G's.

 

If Endo forged feel is important then get the Z745's.

Is there an iron that would work better for someone who takes large divots with their irons?

 

I'm inquiring for a friend of mine as I am a very shallow divot taker myself. Any info or recommendations are appreciated.

 

Take a look at Edel - 2 grinds, but a club with more bounce would help.

Like a few others in here have stated, look at Wilson. Anything from the FG tour line will do...V2 V4 or V6 depending on your budget

I read this from page one, .... I get it now, diggers means someone is taking a divot after swing.

 

Pardon me, I thought the original question was asking about what is the best iron to eliminate digging problems.

So is a digger someone who hits the ground before the ball? because i take a reasonable divot but the ball is long gone by then?

Either irons that come 1/4" short, or ones that make u narrow your stance? ;)

I'm hitting Adams CMB, and they are great. 745's seem good as well.
