How Duck Hunters Here

I hunt ducks. Geese. Pheasants. Grouse. Doves. Hell if it flies it dies. Best place for birds is on my plate wrapped in bacon.

I'll jump on this thread! I love sitting in the duck blind with the dog next to me! Didn't have a great year this winter, but we had fun.

Hevi Shot seems to be a good performer. I heard lead is going to be OK'd again for hunting shot.

Hevishot is the best waterfowl load on the market. I use both Hevimetal and Hevishot Duck

with outstanding results. We had a good year in NE Arkansas despite the roller coaster

weather conditions we experienced.....

I would love to use some Hevi, it is just so darn expensive. I need to spend a lot more time at the range before I start forking over 2 to 3 bucks a trigger pull.

You shoot less shells with a shotgun shells like Hevishot due to the

hitting power and energy they impart. Much cleaner kills with

very few if any cripples

When the golf game starts getting stale at the end of summer, good to look forward to early teal in September. By the time snow geese are done in March, golf will be back soon. But if I lived in San Diego I'd probably never hunt again, just golf constantly!

I'm a big duck hunter here in Nebraska. I have shot Hevi metal, Hevi steel, Kent, Fiocchi and now use the new Cabela's Herters waterfowl brand of steel shot. Mainly due to rising costs but the Herters steel waterfowl load is top notch. You don't need Hevi Shot to knock down birds. I have killed many geese with #3 steel at passing distance. Maybe it's my Patternmaster choke :)

. The best goose hunter i know kills more birds dead with 2 3/4 inch steel. I shoot a 20 gauge winchester sx3 and kill more geese and ducks than the guys i hunt with that shoot 12's. How? Work harder at getting them closer and pick your shots. The old boys did this best before the duck dynasty sky busters came along.

 

I hunt in canada (not the good provinces like alberta/sask) southern bc. Mostly local birds not much migrating birds so they seem extra educated. Limits are tough.

Found a steal 2 years ago on a benelli vinci and love it. My dads beretta a400 extreme is a dream though. I just moved to NC 3 months ago

I SOLD two Super Vinci's this FALL because they literally crippled my hand

when I shot 3.5" shells. I am a big a400 fan but it is being replaced by the

a400 plus which should be available soon. Super reliable and no crippling

issues for me

I bought 5 cases of Heavy shot a few years ago when Cabela's had them on clearance for 18 a box. Nothing like folding up a goose at 50 yards! Benelli SBE2 heck of a workhorse!

Great time for a bump!  

 

I run a Benelli Super Black Eagle from 1995.  As long as the recoil spring stays lubricated and working, I'm gonna keep running it.   A little long for a turkey gun @ 28 but does the job on those as well.    Have ran 3" turkey loads in my Super 90, it would be nearly perfect in 3-1/2 although it would probably boot me into early retirement.

 

Those, a Citori, and a 73 year old Stevens 12 gauge SxS choked EXTRA-FULL/FULL round out the bird-to-food conversion tools.

Don't hunt turkeys and gave up duck hunting a few years ago because the spots around here were getting too crowded (and too dangerous).  Did take a couple duck/goose hunting trips to Saskatchewan years ago and really enjoyed it.  Missed the upland question, so I'll pretend it's December and get the little fella in here!
