Leupold Customer Service is outstanding

I bought a Leupold GX-3i in 2012 and have loved it for years. Always seemed a bit quicker than my buddy's Bushnell.

 

This passed year it still worked very well, but I was having more trouble with targets over 200 yards and especially over about 240.

 

Called Leupold and the CS rep said to send it in and they'd take a look. It was well passed warranty but I was hoping maybe it could be recalibrate. Sent it early this month. I called a couple weeks later and they told me they had just sent a new one out the door. On my step today was a brand new GX-3i2. NO CHARGE and the NEWEST model.

 

That's some unbelievable customer service. Thank you Leupold!

I can't say that I use their range finder for golf...as I don't like the tint that I get looking through the eye piece...but I have a couple of their rifle scopes. Among optics companies, Leupold and Vortex are absolutely the best in terms of customer service by a far margin over their competitors.

I just sent in my Leupold because some of the lights were out and it just wasn't working well. I just got an email back from Leupold with the following:

 

"We have received your product for service and estimate completion in 24 working days with an additional 2-4 weeks for custom work."

 

Has anyone received this message from Leupold before and what happened. I'm guessing they are going to try and repair mine (5+ years old)?

No I think that's just the standard email they send out, so they can then over deliver. I got that message as well.

Leupold is great about giving out replacement units when the old one fails. Unfortunately, the units fail quite frequently. I had a unit that was a few years old that failed and they replaced it for free. New unit arrived but it's flaky.

I have an old GX-2 that keeps trucking along like a tank- going on my 7th or 8th season with it. I'm not saying I'm rooting for it to fail, but I'm awful close to upgrading to that new GX-5i3 which looks amazing. I do wish they had a trade-in program like Bushnell does.

That was exactly my experience with Leupold.

 

Where Leupold really fell down in my opinion and got me to cross them off my list, was the original Gx4i.

 

They sold it as "USGA Conforming", based on the fact that you could remove the "silver" lens frame, which shut off the "slope" feature.

 

Subsequently, the USGA ruled that model was NOT conforming and Leupold wouldn't do anything about it nor even offer buyers a reasonable price to upgrade to their next edition, which was USGA conforming.

My gx4i quit picking up prisms, sent it in, called them. They were going to send a 4i2, but would send the 5i3 for (IIRC) $70. I now have the 5i3.

It is now, it wasn't.

4i2 is conforming. I have no idea why? The 4i had a faceplate that clearly showed if you were using slope, the 5i3 is legal, yet slope can be switched on and off on a whim.

I received the same message today on the "24 working days and additional 2-2 weeks" on my GX-2i. I've been having a heard time recently picking up flagsticks at my home course with prims that are under 200 yards and picking up objects in the background. Hopefully it will not be that long for the repair.
