Cleveland 588 Tour Action Wedges

I did a search on here... didn't see anything.

 

Are these the original ones and Cleveland re-released them? I see them on other popular golf websites too like pgasuperstore. I can't find it on the Cleveland website.

 

Please advise... if this is the same as before... this would make my day/week/year.

I would seriously consider bagging 588's with legal grooves. They were some of the greatest feeling wedges I've ever played.

I have a 56 and 60 588 that I've had for at least 15 years. I've never known these clubs to make the non-conforming list. Was there ever a time when they were deemed illegal? Thanks!

Wow! The Cleveland re-released the famous 588 (now with conforming grooves). Tiger used them in his early years of being pro. I believe they were in the bag when he won the '97 Masters.

 

If they have it at my local Golftown I might take a real serious look at it (if the price is right).

The original 588s were never illegal before 2010 but that stupid USGA groove rule did make them illegal for tournament play.

He did have them. He had the "tg" version. They're retailing at $79.99

EDIT: Just found more info at golfdiscount.com. Turns out these are a re-release that DOES CONFORM to the new USGA rules. I'm confused why there is no marketing of this product and why they are only charging an MSRP of $79.99 ($69.99 right now at the link below).

The new ones at Dicks, Golf Galaxy etc are conforming. They are also a soft stainless and pretty nice. Not as heavy as the original but still a great deal for 80 bucks.

I thought the same about the marketing. Nothing on the site. Most sales associates had no idea. You would think they would because younger sales reps have no idea what the originial 588 is.

 

The spin is noticeable of course. Compared to the RTG i thought they felt harsh, but I haven't played a SS version in over 20 years. Still the same club and I am very happy.

 

On another note, I found an original "TG" in pristine shape the other day.

This is Cleveland's entry level / big-box product. Notice no face milling and only one bounce option per loft.
