I love watching the Masters each year; definitely one of my favorite sporting events to watch.

However, year after year the same holes have the same story: there are several birdie holes (on some of which a par is like a bogey); 2, 8 (less so), 13, 15, 16. Then there are maybe-birdie holes: 3, 7, 9, 14. Then there are par-holes: 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18. On some of the "par holes" seeing a birdie on TV is a rarity.

I dunno, its just year after year it comes down to the same holes, etc. On the one hand, it is a major and perhaps should not be a birdie fest. On the other hand, under-par is the norm there (unlike a US Open). I guess I feel like getting a birdie on one of the nine holes listed is seemingly impossible.

Sergio won the Masters with a birdie on the 18 in the playoff, as well as Scott and Cabrera...

I thought the Scott/Cabrera playoff ended on the 10th hole? They both parred the 18th (first playoff hole) and then Scott birdied the 10th (second playoff hole). Or is my memory faulty. It was a cool playoff.

Absolutely, but you said 18 is a par hole but I replied it is not rare to see a birdie on 18 (also Schwartzel btw)

That was someone else, not me.

But you're right, birdies are not rare to the usual Sunday hole location on the 18th.

Cannot really agree here, but I like the post anyhow, a good way to look at it, that each hole has it's story.

But surely the story holewise is NOT about the same story on each hole.

The last two holes, the anticlimax after the iconic 10-16 äre all about the score. On 17, do players end up on the right place on the green? On 18- who does make that biridie putt? Birdies do sure occur and are not rare. Both are challenging par fours, so no birdie fests, and not as dramatic as the previous holes. But no pinehursting.

Then 16, where a birdie sure is no gimmie for even the best guys, you see hole-in-ones and you see bogeys.

15, I don't think anyone can complain about the drama there.

14 is a yawn, granted.

13, well we have Sergio in Pine needles, Phil in the needles, countless guys up on that slope above the green, guys in the creek. Eagles, bogeys...

12, ok same story every masters sunday. Guys standing anxiously trying to figure out what kind of shot to make. But for results... lets only say Spieth.

For 10 and 11, well ok, they are par holes and most guys play for the par. But they are pretty neat par holes. A lot of bogeys there too. And birdies are not all that rare.

The thing is, you know those hole so well after having watching, especially the back nine, so you can really appreciate the shots. Especially now when that ball flight contraption tracks the ball flight graphically. I would say, it is since you know the story of the holes, that watching is so special.

I wonder who will win the 2018 Masters?

I don't know who will win, but I'm putting $100 on Spieth dumping it into Rays Creek again.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

From now on, he will have to do it every year, even on purpose. Otherwise the Masters will never be like it has "always" been.

Spieth in the water at 12 on Sunday is becoming a tradition unlike any other, I think he went wet also in 2014 when Bubba won

LOL that is funny as hell. Not sure if Speith can ever recover now. #12 is a demon hole to him now.

btw, great win for Sergio. He almost threw it away but that amazing par on 13 from the woods was the best stuff ever.

And however is a Kuchar hater, wow just wow.

That last putt really was icing on the cake. Super classy ending handshake between the two as well.

Rose had as much to do with that putt as Sergio. If Sergio needed that putt to win or stay in the playoff no way he makes it. Not ragging on Sergio, his good play on that hole put him in that dominant position, just saying that having two putts from short range to win releases the pressure.

Dude found something in his head in the woods on #13. Went in leaking a massive amount of oil. Came out as calm as the Lama, and didn't miss a shot from there going forward. Really interesting to see someone throw the switch like that. Great tournament, and a great win for Sergio.

He also had to hit a drive & approach shot somewhat under the gun to get to that point .

I agree and said that in my post. Sergio has always been a great ball striker and hits great shots under pressure. It's his putting that has been shaky under the pump. My point was that he made that putt partly because there was no pressure on him.

In my mind, he makes even if Rose does....lol.

Masters champ now sucks so much that caddie fired himself

Their rift is even more surprising as they have been pals since they were 13. Smart began working for Willett in 2010, and they seemed inseparable. The pair talked in glowing terms about each other’s qualities in a BBC documentary aired during the buildup to this year’s Masters.
