Now that the proverbial monkey is off his back, I wouldn't be surprised if Sergio picked up one of two more majors. Great to see him get one in grand fashion!

 

Ditto, the guy is lights out with driver and irons imo even more so then DJ over the long term, he's been known to start hitting it sideways when in contention at majors. All about that flat stick.

 

 

Hopefully this doesn't get deleted.....what does everyone think of SG's chances in the U.S. Open now that he's opened the door to winning majors?

 

He's one of the best ball strikers out there, and he seems to have his (outside of golf) life in order. If he gains some added confidence from this win - watch out.

 

His mental game was always his weak point, that and the putter but he seems to be going in the right direction with that, made a lot of great putts this weekend.

That's what I thought. Never cared for the 18 hole playoff format for the U.S. Open. PGA Championship is a better format, but still prefer the sudden death format.

That's what I thought. Never cared for the 18 hole playoff format for the U.S. Open. PGA Championship is a better.

 

I like the three hole aggregate (anyway I think it's three). One poor swing doesn't necessarily kill you, and you can't win it with one great shot.

I have always thought the British Open would most likely be the championship Sergio breaks through in. He loves that event and he has a stellar record in it.

 

Now that Sergio knows the secret to winning a major, I strongly believe he'll capture the Claret Jug sometime in the next five or six years.

yes, they have to give it back, but now sure when. For some reason Im thinking a year.

Yes sir! Only 36 was 1935. First sudden death was 1979 (not sure when they changed from 18, but that was the first one actually played after it changed).

What an exciting back 9. Some truly spectacular shot making on display. Kudos to Rose for the way he handled himself in defeat. He will get another chance to add to his major tally.

Really happy for Sergio, and well worth getting up at 3am to watch. having grown up with Sergio, it was great to watch him finally get his golfing redemption. I think a lot of us forget that these kids have grown up in the public eye in a very individual sport that strips you down to your very essence. I really wasn't sure if he was going to choke it away, and his body language was poor - head down, slumped shoulders etc, but after he made par on 13, it seemed to kick him into Ryder Cup mode. As for the missed putts - it's Augusta, people miss putts, especially down the stretch on Sunday. I just hope that Westwood can bring home an Open soon as new best player to never have won a Major.

 

Hats off to Justin Rose, who is one of the most gracious and sporting golfers out there. Class in defeat and victory, and I am sure he must have been conflicted knowing that it was probably the Major that his friend wanted more than anything, but that he also wanted.

 

Spieth was continue to contend - he has a closet full of green jackets if not for 12 now. Fowler as well will surely prove that orange and green can work one day....

 

Pieters looks very strong - a Belgian version of DJ if ever I saw one.

 

And lastly, no asterix required with DJ being out injured - even Tiger only won 4 jackets, so it was hardly a case of DJ only having to tea it up to win.

 

Just an awesome Masters all round really - I can imagine how the thread went into meltdown, but that really was a great shootout, almost on a par with Stenson and Mickelson last year. Stay classy folks - golf is a great game that needs to rebrand itself in a post Tiger era, and Open '16 and Augusta '17 will really help - lets not do anyone a disservice by posting rubbish and hating on everyone (for once).

Here's a question for the peanut gallery. On a scale of '08 PGA Championship to 2013 Masters, how legitimate of a major championship victory was this considering the clear world #1 and hottest player in the world was absent? Is there a big, small, or no asterisk? Mark me down for saying it is 98% asterisk free.

Sergio said that in the practice rounds he hit the putt on 18 multiple times and it always went slightly left. But Faldo said it was straight from the booth. Weird.

Possible the cup was cut today in not the exact same spot Sergio was practicing for?and inch or so on those greens makes a big difference.
