This might just be a random coincidence, on my travels in 2016 I ended up in Chicago and Spain, and the Cubbies win the world series, and now Sergio with a Green Jacket. Anyone want to fly me out to their city to break a championship drought?

How soon can you get to Lincoln, Ne?!

Another Nebraska member? There are a surprising amount of us here on wrx!

Yes sir. Way out west.

I assume that means you get to play the nice courses? There are some great places like Sand Hills, Dismal River, Prairie Club, Wild Horse, etc.

For the record, I am cautiously optimistic for the Huskers this year. But that's enough thread jacking I suppose.

The funny thing is, the nearest of those courses to us is still 200 miles, they're as close to Lincoln as us (although other than Sand Hills I have played them, and they are great)!!

Yes, cautiously optimistic, but it sounds like us fans might be the only ones who are.

Not to get side tracked, but I didn't know a single person who thought we would win that one with Tommy playing at maybe 50%

What's sad is that he might have been our best option...

New QB and a whole new defensive scheme? I love my Huskers, but 7 or 8 wins is my prediction.

Every Husker fan I ran into let me know how badly we would lose! Football season is great. My oldest Hawkeye daughter is in grad school in Lincoln, her students learned black and gold Fridays.

That's funny, I really have no idea what they were thinking! Iowa came off that big win over Michigan, and Nebraska was limping along (literally and figuratively)

I think it's becoming a fun rivalry.

justin rose is pure class, love that guy.

Kuch made a great run and easy player to root for

i hope lee westwood wins a major

sergio might win a few more after this,

i think spieth is kind of a whiner/crybaby with his reactions on the course and his chicken wing follow thru gets him in trouble on downhill lies

what is better then the masters, its just the best

Seriously? Look at the last 30 masters. Whether youre up by 5 or down by 5 the back nine is extremely volatile and the tournament is always won and lost there. How many was spieth up by on the 10th hole last year? Its an expression thats actually very truthfull. Its a unique venue where you can hear roars that are deafening and tell you whats wating for you next hole. You know when someone is making a run so everything you did on thursday, friday and saturday comes down to those crucial 9 holes where posting a 30 or 31 isnt out of the ordinary and no lead is safe

Unless I am missing something I think GOLF WRX needs a twitter hashtag or a group twitter for majors. Doing this and connecting w/ golf fans is fun but doing it on a message board is so 1994. W/ that said I don't have all the idea worked out but maybe the week of the tournament the team could let us know the hashtag like #GolfWRXMasters or something and we would know where to go and we could talk collectively as a group.

I think most posters come on here because it isn't twitter, and they want to keep it that way.

Look at most of the stuff that gets posted on twitter, I really don't want to be a part of that.

Amen

love the masters. such a great weekend. it signals the beginning of spring and the start of golf's major season. but where are all the great american golfers? Only 2 americans in the top 10. Ok there are 4 tied for 11th.

ok. DJ WD'd. But he never had a good record at Augusta. I mean our hopes for US guys winning was McGirt and Charley Hoffman. Where are all these guys that can overpower a golf course?

so there is a subtle point to all this. and i think the PGA is setting up courses so a certain type of player (the bombers) have an advantage. Augusta taps into shot making ability.

and of course putting.

i hope jordan can right his ship.

and DJ can get healthy

It's only true for the people who did well enough the previous 63 holes to have a chance anyways. I can assure you the masters did not start on the back nine on Sunday for Stenson this year. People say the same thing in basketball about the last two minutes when really a buzzer beater jumpshot from the elbow and a layup in the first quarter are worth the same thing, 2 points. It's a nice saying but it's not based in reality IMO.

It is "real" from the viewers' perspective. They would be rightfully outraged if they were shown highlights by the front-runners from the first 3 rounds, instead of the live action during the last couple of hours of tournament coverage.

I have no life, so I spent an extraordinary amount of time watching just about every available minute of this year's tournament (online and broadcast), including pre-game and post-game shows. Honestly, most of Thursday and Friday was painful to watch. The weather just made the course virtually unplayable. I almost had to turn away when Willett ran up a quad on the first hole on Friday. Man, that was ugly.

Saturday was fairly dull, because no one really made a run up the leaderboard, even though the course was getable. Sunday didn't get interesting until Rose started his birdie run on 6, 7, & 8. And then the tension exploded on the back 9.

I realize that the tournament doesn't technically start on the back 9 on Sunday, but I am forced to agree with people who say that that the competition starts then. The holes are set up for maximum drama, and that's the only time when there's really any leaderboard volatility.

Pretty semantic argument IMO. Its the most iconic back 9 on the planet and history has shown us that regardless of how you did in the the previous 63 holes magic and tragedy can happen in the last 9 holes. Case in point 99% of the people in this thread thought it was over yesterday when sergio bogeyed 10 & 11. What happened next? Thats why that saying IS based in reality.Garcia Schwartzel, Mickelson, Willett, etc... how many more do you need to see to be convinced its the most game changing back 9 in golf?

What I've always taken that saying to mean is that the back nine on Sunday is when the Masters becomes not just another tournament but something unique in all of golf.

The ebb and flow of the leaderboard due to the unique sequencing of the risk/reward holes, the way the cheers echo around those hills and the pressure of the history of that back nine. When you're in contention it all combines to make it FEEL unlike the previous 3-1/2 rounds. That feeling is what the players hope to be a part of.

of course it doesn't really start on the back nine on Sunday. There is plenty of drama on Thursday (see Charley Hoffman), or Friday ( making or not making the cut), and Saturday is "moving day", setting the stage for Sunday.

Whoever first said "The Masters doesn't start until the back nine on Sunday" was being poetic, not literal (duh!!). What was being expressed was the notion that with all of the trouble, yet "get-able" holes, especially the par 5s, there is a lot of opportunity for leaders to fall (think #12, and JS), and for chasers to catch "think Sergio on 15", a lot of stuff can happen, and it usually does, which is why we all love it.

What I've always taken that saying to mean is that the back nine on Sunday is when the Masters becomes not just another tournament but something unique in all of golf.

yeah, that is what I was trying to say, but you nailed it.

Didn't watch as much as I should have , Rors major issue this week? Faulty putter? Etc....

For whatever reason, Rory is just not firing on all cylinders. He misses a lot of seemingly makable putts; his short game is inconsistent and he hits poor shots at inopportune times. I think he has a problem with concentration.

I think a few factors.

Hasn't played much due to rib injury. I also think that's partly to blame on his scheduling. He seems to start later than most.

I think the equipment is a factor. He's still in a testing phase it seems. Add that all up and you get someone not firing on all cylinders.

Did anyone notice in the 3rd round Steve Williams snuffing Rose after the match? Williams briskly walked by him on the 18th when Rose was approaching him for a handshake.

I did not notice. Are you aware of any reason for bad blood between the two of them?

The only connection I can think of is Sean Foley.

It's always Sean Foley's fault.

When is Fowler going to get that Major!!!!!

When he dumps Butch and goes to Sean Foley.

I hear that works out well for players...

Saw that too.

Just an awful man Steve Williams....hope he retires for good and doesn't resurface

Any chance we can treat him like those cameras and toss him into a lake?

Asking for a friend.
