Xcalibur out of business?

Sounds like Golfworks is no longer going to carry Xcalibur shafts. Anyone know the story here? Is Xcalibur done?

I posted this a few days ago here and on the GEA forum. Not much input here but there was a bit on the GEA.

Anybody know what's going on with Xcaliber shafts? The following was on the Golfworks Forum:

"I do not know the status of Xcaliber going forward. The current models are no longer in production and once they are gone there will be no more. Whether there will be new models or not, we can not say at this point in time."

Sounds like he is/was ill or sick or something. Hard to carry on a business as a seemingly one man show like that.

That's too bad. Hopefully he is ok.

I emailed a question a while back and never got a response which is strange as I got an answer almost immediately the last time I had a question. Makes sense now.

On that subject does anyone know if the 'Pro' shafts are a direct replacement for the 'Tour' shafts? I have Tour shafts in my driver and 3 wood and wanted another for my 5 wood but couldn't find the Tour shafts in stock anywhere so assumed the Pro must have replaced them?

May need to stock up with a few now if the OP is sadly correct......or start paying the exorbitant prices competitors charge.

I hope not.

I will take that one step further with an answer I received from Golfworks...

It will not be back in stock. The current line of Xcaliber shafts has been discontinued and was suppose to be replaced with a new product line but we have not yet seen the new product line. It is looking like going forward that we will not longer have the Xcaliber line of shafts.

Looks like no matter what Robin does Golfworks will not be carrying them...

with retailers carrying 40-50% margins on these why not sell direct?

cut prices if necessary and offer free shipping

If Robin is having health issues I wish him the best in a speedy recovery. I have played Xcaliber Shafts for a while in both woods and irons and hate to see that these are no longer available. I love that the irons shafts have a low balance “tip heavy” to keep swing weights at a more standard feel of steel shafts. Wish someone could work it out to start producing these shafts again so to bring them back to market. It was nice to have a great shaft at a reasonable price and to offer them in both .370” and .355” tip iron shafts which I play the .355” in my Titleist AP1’s.

He's now in good health and is working to release some new products in 2018, both to Golfworks and to select clubfitters.

I emailed last month, and received this reply:

Hi Ray

Thanks for your mail. It means a lot to me since I’ve been out for quite a while!!

I’m so sorry I haven’t responded sooner. I’ve been battling some serious health problems since late Fed until this month. For a long time I’ve either been in hospitals for treatments or doctors’ offices for follow-up. I’ve been so weak and sick that I couldn’t function. I had had a little flare-up and even went to the ER last night as a precautionary. But I was fine, wasn’t admitted and came home. I have finally a complete, long lasting bill of health and plans accordingly. So now I can think golf out of a bed, thinking about the strategies and logistics and preparing for 2018.

2018 is going to be a big year for the Xcalibers and Knights of Camelot. The three new lines are designed, 1/3 already has cosmetics and the remaining will be done by Jan.15. Releasedin Feb/March.

We’re also coming up with a new company structure. I won’t have to do everything. We’re implementing an Administrator consulting team to go along with our graphics and copy write editor. That will free me up to do what I do best. So new products, new website, new videos…new face of the company.

Thank you again for your mail. I hope to have your support in 2018. But if you don’t I completely understand. Ill still always be here to answer any questions you have on any golf related equipment and shafts.

Sincerely yours,

Robin

I will spend time with him later next week and hope to have some of the new shafts in hand. Maybe I can post some pictures and get some range time with them and then get some launch monitor data.

Hey Popeye - did you have a chance to try out some of the shafts? Any pics? I'm a big xcaliber fan and was excited to run across this thread.

Yes I tested a bunch of the new shafts and they are a rapid taper design plus some updated existing shafts. I don't have pics but will see what i can find. Performance of the iron shafts were shocking at how long they were. Driver shafts perform extremely well too.

I emailed a couple of weeks ago asking about .355 shafts in x flex and he said, basically, not enough demand.

Disappointing

I don't see why, with just a little bit of shaft prep they work great. There is not a lot of material to remove in order for them to fit. The top of the hosel on a .355 head is .370. When you taper the tip of the shaft there is still a lot of resin in the center or the shaft.

If .355 were made then you have to carry iron head specific inventory. It's a huge expense unless you are doing a big volume or an OEM run.

I have never seen a failure of a .370 shaft prepped for a .355 head that I have done. I have done quite a few.

What state are you located in???

I have some Honma heads I want to install the Xcaliber .370’s in, since his line of shafts cuts of at 85g for the taper.

Do you know anyone in So Cal that could do the work?

The shafts are not available yet. Should be mid February or so. I am in Pa. I can give you a shout when they come available. Send me a pm.

Maybe the fact that the old pro lite 35 is as good as the current products makes it a hard market to crack . There are no gains
