Best Booking Agency for Scotland/Ireland

Recommended Posts

My group is is in the beginning stages of trying to book a trip to Scotland/Ireland in upcoming years. Who does everyone book through and does anyone know of an agency that provides transportation across both Ireland and Scotland? We were looking at a week trip that covered a good bit of moving around. I've tried to get some pricing info out of Hidden Links but no luck so far. Thanks in advance.

Don't book with anyone! Do it yourself with the help of someone who has written a book about it. Check it out on fergusongolf.com

^this. The Ferguson book is great and the internet stuff all these courses use now have made it even easier since he wrote the book. The ONLY advice of his I will ignore next time is where to rent cars.

UNLESS you are willing to tack on $1500-2000 onto the trip for a guaranteed Old Course tee time. I wasn't willing to do so when I planned a trip for Dad and I because we were willing to do the 48 hour lottery after missing out on the annual lottery. But hey, some people are willing to pay that amount for convenience.

I've used this company for several years and will do so again this year and next year. They do a great job.

Yes, it can be done. And probably isn't too difficult for a small group. We always have 12 golfers and play eight different courses. So with all that plus hotels, restaurants and transportaion, it can get quite complex.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking for a travel company. How many times have you used this company? Also have you used their sample tours or made up your own?

No Laying Up had a few good podcasts and articles about a recent trip they took to England, but they also talked about Scotland and Ireland trips. They had their trip paid for by www.golfbreaks.com, but their website and packages look good. I'll be looking into them when I'm ready to make that trip.

Howdy! James here from Golfbreaks and 5 minutes of fame on the NLU pod!

We've been open for business here in the UK for the last 20 years or so, however set up in the USA (Charleston) a couple of years back to organise these exact sorts of trips. We've had the relationships with the UK/Ireland venues now for so long that we get some pretty great rates and excitingly we're now an officially authorised provider of tee-times for St Andrews giving us guaranteed times.

If anybody wants any more info, fire me over a line at jsomerside@golfbreaks.com or check out the site for yo'self! - usa.golfbreaks.com

All the best!

Used hidden links in 2014. No issues, as a matter of fact, due to flight delays, airline misplacing clubs, etc.... they rearranged tee times for us.

We've used them for about 12 years (Scotland, Ireland, and Portugal) and our trips are always custom. We don't use the website. We email or call the owner.

I have used Hidden Links to arrange trips and would highly recommend them. Jeff Flynn is the owner and they will tailor a trip to your budget. I did much on line research on the trips and his price was exceptional and as good as me trying to arrange direct. He also had brilliant suggestions as he is a member of a few courses overseas and has first hand knowledge. The big plus is he gets guaranteed bookings that are otherwise difficult to obtain. It's usually best if you have a fair idea of what areas and courses you want to cover during your travels. Here is Jeff's email. jflynn@hiddenlinksgolf.com

Sent multiple emails to Golfbreaks with zero response. No sure this is the best option.

Does anybody know of an agency that will just book tee times for you? I'm heading to Ireland and plan on driving/lodging myself. I could use some help routing courses and getting tee times lines up for the 8-10 courses I plan on visiting.

just call or email the course directly. did this with our trip to scotland and just did this a few weeks ago for Royal County Down.

I no longer recommend using this company. Their responsiveness and thoroughness has declined recently.

This. Read trip review/planning threads on here and take a look at Google maps :)

With the majority of courses bookable online - and all contactable online - it's an easy way to go for a single.

FWIW, I think a good rule of thumb is if you're a foursome or less put one person in charge and book it yourself, while if you're more than four go with a professional service.

I agree. In fact, I do all of my eight man trips by myself and have never had a problem getting tee times, etc. We rent vans and drive ourselves. If you get to 12 or more, it becomes more manageable to use a bus and a pro travel service.
