Could get on a number of nice courses, but it seems their pain threshold is about $100/guy for a tee time between 10-11am.

 

Aliante and Black Mountain look alright on picture online. Any other suggestions?

 

I played Royal Links and Southshore last month. Southshore was the nicest course I've been on and I thought Royal Links was alright, but not near Southshore.

Oh God, stay away from both of those courses. Black Mountain is a dog track and Aliante is always in piss poor shape because I think it's now owned by the county and it's gone severely down hill. I would just keep tabs on Last Minute Golfer times and Golf Now times.

 

Maybe play Paiute ? I think they have a good deal for 36 holes and lunch out there or something of the sort.

Hah! What time is your tee time? I'm playing DP @ 720. I've only played there once and I remember feeling like there isn't an even lie on that f!cking course. Yeah, the Sun course is great, but if you can, play the Wolf course. TBH, they're all great courses and pretty tough.

 

LVGC is a Muni course and owned by the county so it's similar to Aliante but it's a classic course. One of the oldest if not the oldest in Vegas. If you want to see memorabilia, Las Vegas National is good for that. That's where they used to hold that old Tournament back in the day. I think that is where TW played one of his first tournaments. I don't remember, but it was something like that. The course greens are tough and the bunkers are filled with kitty litter, but it's not awful.

Rob nailed it, stay away from anything managed by Elite which include Black Mountain or Wildhorse since they already killed off Silverstone and Badlands.

 

If you have a car, make the trip to Paiute. Playing LVGC tomorrow so I can give an update on conditions.

Paiute Sun all day long. Spanish Trails isn't as nice as it once was and the greens are hit or miss out there.

Got on Wolf instead. Been a whirlwind of emotions in the last 24hrs!

Wolf greens punched April 17-21 according to their website.

I played tpc las vegas the other day and it was in awesome shape and played tough. It was $150 but had a $40 replay for the next day, so I played it 2 days in a row and highly recommend it!

Wolf was nice. I think the mountains in the distance made it seem nicer than it was. Very playable, but bumpy greens as expected. I'm surprised the greens out this was get seeded so late.

 

Desert Pines was in much better shape than I would have thought by some reviews I saw. The greens there were hard to figure out, but rolled well.

 

Also, when does the Bermuda take over the rye? I was surprised to see the rye grass this late in the year.

It was abnormally cold that weekend. Hope you had a good time.

It was nice. It was a slow round and the wind made some holes very difficult.

 

A few wind examples:

 

-On 9 I had to hit a choked up 3w from 160 on an uphill lie out of that lower right hand side that landed on the back end of the green. Brutal winds!

 

-A number of short irons that I would aim 5-10 yards off the green and watch it push it off the other end of the green.

 

-I remember hitting a choked down 9 to an 88yd middle flag and it barely getting to the front.

 

Normally I'd not be happy with an 85, but on a course I'd never seen and those conditions I was content. That 88 at Desert Pines with 11 three outs is a different story.... don't drink and golf people.
