Trade in or sell?

I have a set of older X-forged irons sitting around that have KBS C-Taper 130 shafts in them. Is it even worth trying to sell these or should I just take the trade in value?

Sell outright if you can. Trade in might be about $150-$175. Sell outright and you should be able to clear $225, but dont forget about shipping.

Take good pics....if you sell on the BST, try to address any/all issues....and, take the time to answer all questions from interested parties.

 

Should yield you the best return...will take you a little more time, but....your call

Selling will generally net more than trade in. However you should try to figure out what the difference is going to be. I "lost" about $20 trading in a 2016 m2 fairway. However, the shop didnt care that there was a small nick on the crown. They didnt try to low ball me. I also didnt have to ship it. In this case the trade in was worth it for me since they were having a sale on stuff I wanted anyway.

 

You need to find the right balance for you. If there had been a larger difference in trade-in vs sale I may have sold it.

Case by case. I had 8 older used wedges in various conditions. All OTR with life left. No way I was going to list each one and deal with pictures, negotiating, shipping, etc to potentially 8 different buyers (if I was lucky). So it was a much better venture to package them all up and get a trade-in value promo increase online.

 

An iron set in good condition with good pictures and desciption will more than likely do better selling outright.

I trade in almost everything now. You will get less money, but you don't have to pay to ship, there's no risk of the shipper losing/damaging anything, there's no buyer on the other end trying to scam you, etc. You have to determine how much peace of mind is worth to you.

 

Unless you think the resale is going to be a ton more than trade value, of course. Then its worth rolling to dice a little.

Don't forget if you trade it in, the place might have a trade-in bonus at certain times. I offloaded a bunch of older clubs with a 150% bonus late last year, and I ended up getting more than I would have selling them privately...and I didn't have to mess with creating/maintaining a listing, packaging, dealing with tire-kickers, shipping, etc...

 

I agree with the others about not having to mess with buyers. It doesn't take much for it to become more of a PITA then it's worth, sometimes.

If the shipping is > $15/20... i trade it in at the appropriate time (sale-bonus-generous manager,etc).

 

BST is great, just takes more time. I value my time.

For me, selling is a royal pain in the butt. By the time I price things low enough that people will buy them and then add in the cost of shipping (usually high since I'm in Maine and it seems everyone I sell to is across the country...lol) I don't lose much money by trading in.

 

Global golf and others offer free shipping on trade ins, and I am constantly wanting to try the next club so I love having all the used club choices.

 

This week I traded in a Cobra LTD driver, LTD 3-4 wood, F6 3-4 wood, F6 hybrid, 2 complete sets of irons, and 2 putters. The box weighed 26 pounds!

 

I got a different driver, 3 wood, hybrid, iron set, and putter, and will still have $50 in trade credit. I didn't have to ship to 10 different people, pay any paypal fees, spend hours taking pictures and asking questions, or deal with the USPS. Total win for me, even if I lost $100 value compared to selling them all outright. The hours saved = more than the money lost, for me.

When you've traded in irons, did they ever reject clubs where there was too much browning on the face? I'm wondering what do they consider too much "wear" on irons?
