The Open and Scotland Golf Trip July 2017

Hello GolfWRX community,

 

I just wanted to share the details of my "once in a lifetime" Father & Son Scottish Golf Trip. Any suggestions in terms of where to eat, drink, and any other helpful information is welcome. If you know of any castles or other must see sights along my path, please share.

 

We have a small group, just myself and my father. This is one of those trips that we always told each other that we would go on together... thankfully we are in a position that allows us both to do so. While in Scotland we will celebrate my 30th birthday, my fathers 67th birthday, attend the Sunday round of The Open, and play 9 Open rota courses. I am a 6 handicap and my father a 9. The dates of our trip are July 16- July 26th.

 

July 16th- Arrival to Edinburgh - Tour the City/ whisky tasting/ Edinburgh Castle

July 18th- Muirfield (x2) 9:50am- Fourball in the morning and Foursomes in the afternoon.

July 19th- Kingsbarns 10:20am- Afternoon whisky tour at Kingsbarns distillery

July 20th- Carnoustie (x2) 10:00am- Championship Course in the morning and Burnside Course in the afternoon

July 21th- The Old Course, St. Andrews- Ballot entry or 3am starter stand

(if we fail the ballot, we will attempt to get on from the 19th-21st and reschedule)

July 22th- Royal Lytham & St Anne’s 2:50pm- Staying in Blackpool, GB

July 23th- The Open- Final Round of The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale

July 24th- Trump Turnberry 12:06pm- Ailsa Championship Course- Whisky tasting/ sightseeing

July 25th- Prestwick 8:36am- Old Course 8:36am

- Royal Troon Golf Club 4:00pm

July 26th- Depart from Glasgow

 

Accommodations:

Golf Inn, Edinburgh/Gullane- 1 night prior to playing Muirfield, then drive to St Andrews.

Six Murray Park, St Andrews- 4 nights then drive to Royal Lytham

Imperial Hotel, Blackpool- 2 Nights Royal Lytham & The Open then drive to Trump Turnberry

South Beach Hotel, Troon- 2 Nights Turnberry, Prestwick, and Troon

The total cost of our trip including room (with breakfast), rental car, tee times, and tickets to the final round of The Open- £ 3492.

 

I have been planning this trip since June of last year and I am beyond excited for it to be closing in. I am very satisfied with the courses we are playing, wishing only that we had more time. There are several in the North that I would have loved to play but this leaves me a reason to make another trip over.

The Wildings is great. Been a couple of times and it was packed. The food was very good and would head there if in the area again.
