Desert Dwellers...Hot weather shoe of choice?

Moving to Tucson soon and wondering what shoe is a favorite during the hot months?

I usually wear Adipures, but I'm thinking they'll be pretty sweaty in the hotter months....

For regular wear various olukai shoes. May sound crazy, and I have nothing to back it up, but white and light clothing is something I swear by, including shoes, hats, shorts. When it is 120 (and it will be 120) every little thing makes a difference. I am always astounded at the people (golfers) I see wearing dark hats, shirts, shorts in the summers here. Hello!!! White is the coolest, and anything dark will make you hotter. Cars: buy a white car. With light interior. It all makes a difference.

I have seen only a handful at most of 120° days in 23 years in the valley. A lot of 115 but very few 120's. Not even one a year.

Drink lots of water and you'll be fine.

I got in an argument when I was back home in Ohio this weekend with a buddy telling me it was 126* when he was here a couple of years ago. I googled it.... I think there have only been 3 or 4 days in the valley that officially registered above 120* in the 100 year history of tracking weather records.

But 115* is still freaking hot lol. Light color clothes, light color shoes, UV arm sleeves, and more water than you can think is possible.

End of July 1995 still the hottest continuous stretch of crazy heat I can remember. High of 120 7 day average of 112 Something like 10 out of 14 straight days of 110+. I had only been here for like 2 months and I was thinking if this is every summer WTF am I doing here. Last few years have not felt very bad sure there has been a couple days of 110+ but not week long stretches etc. In fact we have been pretty mild all things considered. 100-108 I dont mind it is when it starts creeping over 110 that it gets to me especially on the golf course.

Fall of 95 I left for school at University of Wyoming in Laramie. We would be wearing Tshirts up there if it was 45 degrees out had 2 feet of snow on the ground by mid Sept. Point is in time your body adapts to the weather around you. A year latter I came back to PHX and was wearing my Carhart jacket to school when it was 45-50. Same jacket I wore in Laramie when it was 10 degrees out with nothing but a tshirt under it. Other fun one is leaving PHX after Thanksgiving it was 92 degrees here, did not think very clearly wore shorts and a tshirt on the plane. It was a long 30 min warming up my truck at the Laramie airport and scraping snow in shorts.

That's funny! I've done that before traveling between Phoenix and Denver. And Laramie is a different kind of cold than Denver.

Group of guys I play with in Torrington, WY play a match every year against a Laramie club. Last year it was in Laramie, I think the first week of September. They woke up to six inches of snow the first morning.

This is how I look at playing golf in the summer here. Anything below 110* you get a bit of a wind chill when the cart moves and you cool off a bit. Over 110* and it is just hot air blowing at you. That said I play year round and it is not a big deal.

Just pointing out the temperature. I love the heat. In NC all the northeast and midwest transplants would say how much they loved the mild winters. Having grown up in FL, NC was just too damn cold for me.

I was passing through Needles CA and it 116 outside. I Walked to a Burger joint and thought I was going to die. Worse than any humidity I've ever experienced. I start a three week Arizona golf vacation in Tucson Friday. Lord have mercy.

Walking on pavement in 116* is not like playing golf in 116*. Here's the deal, that's hot but the key with no humidity is that if you step into the shade you'll feel cooler instantly whereas in the South you'll feel basically the same. 116* is always hot but give me 116* that feels like 108* (made up but something that is aligned with what you'll likely see) vs 98* that feels like 108* any day of the week if you're playing golf. If you're on pavement I'm not sure it really matters much either way, they both suck but they are both better than 45* to me :)

Couldn't have said it better myself. I really think anything under 110* is actually not bad out here...now when you start getting over that mark, yes it gets hot. But the good thing is that if you are golfing when it's that hot and in a cart, the breeze while driving actually cools you off pretty well in between shots...I'm from MI and that's not the case due to the humidity. Also, the heat here isn't stifling to the point where you walk outside and feel instantly drained like you do in the higher humidity climates.

That being said, you don't really need different shoes, but i would invest in a great sock...Personally I think kentwool socks are the best i have ever owned and worth the money and they last incredibly well. I have 2 pairs that I have worn for over a year now for golf 2-3 times per week and still look like new and provide tons of comfort and wick moisture away pretty darn well. Best $20 I have spent.

This is our "winter time" and like I tell my friends in the MW & East, I will GLADLY take 110+* playing golf in 3 hours for around 3 months vs shoveling snow and throwing salt in freezing cold for 3 months.

Very much the reason we're moving to Tucson.

I've lived in 2 ski resorts. Unless there is a lift 5 minutes from my house, I've got no use for cold and snow

Playing golf in the PHX for 40 years now, never had the thought, "geez, my feet are hot, I need different shoes..."

That's great....i just wondered if more of a mesh shoe might be a little more comfy in the heat.

I play in SOCA, AZ and TX, temps to 115*. Properly prepared heat is no big deal and ball go FAR... :) I chose shoes because they provide stability.

For sure, as soon as the round is over, the shoes come off and the flip flops go on.

I feel the heat mostly on my head. Play early, stay hydrated, light colors...

Welcome to AZ!
