Streamsong Tips?

dmitchell165

Recommended Posts

I'll be heading out to Streamsong next week to play the Blue and the Red courses. Just staying one night with my wife (non-golfer) so will be playing as a single... I suppose that I'll get paired up with another group. Do you have any tips to maximize my visit.

How's the practice area, do you suggest spending a bunch of time there?

Or is there anything interesting to see/do in the clubhouse?

Where would you suggest eating lunch and dinner?

Let me know your opinions on the place. Looking into going down next summer and playing all 3 courses. Was going to go this year but decided to wait until black was opened. Playing any other courses while in the area?

Due to summer time afternoon thunderstorms, I suggest going out as early as possible. As a single just go to the pro shop early on and see if you can group up with someone.

Bring rainjacket and rain pants. The good thing is streamsong drains better than any course I know in florida.

outside of a short range, the practice area is AWESOME.

Great chipping area. Driving range is poor. They section off a small area and put the stalls way too close to one another. It was a joke when I was there a couple months ago. People were literally almost hitting the people behind them as they bent to pick up / tee up another ball. And you're hitting very much downhill. Plus you need to take a cart ride to the range. How do you have that much land and have it so poorly planned out that the range is a cart ride away?

Give yourself an hour before your tee time to warm up and get use to the turf and lies. As mentioned, the range requires a shuttle and is good for pre-round warm up. I typically putt first, shuttle to the short game area to work in the sand and pitching before moving on to the range. Getting from the range, back to the 1st tee, is a 15 minute process.

If you use a caddy, trust their aiming points. Both courses feature a good bit of ground roll so keep on the green stuff. Rain is common from 1:30 on and lightning always is it's partner. Because the courses are out and back designs, take rain gear because there is not a lot of shelter on the course. The courses drain extraordinarily well so playing after rain is not an issue.

Streamsong is a treat for we Floridians, especially in the summer when the heat scares the meek. Enjoy.

the food is overpriced ... there's nowhere else to go, so they can charge whatever ... the resort is OUT there in the middle of nowhere ... i would just eat at the clubhouse, if possible, though there's a rooftop bar-type place on the hotel ... the sauna area is open to the general public for a couple of hours in the evening, i believe ... several small dipping areas at various degrees and one at about 45 ... might want to take advantage of that (warning: 45 is FREAKING COLD - but it does feel good) ... if they see lightning within 8 miles, it's an automatic 30 minute delay (might be an hour, can't remember) regardless of where the cell is heading, and it is very likely you will have a delay ... as mentioned, it's head a scratcher why the range is so far away, but they're decent about having carts shuttle back/forth ... you can use a forecaddie instead of a caddie ... the courses themselves are absolutely fabulous and with the summer rates, well worth the trip ... tight lies, though ... if you don't have a caddie, call and ask for Goose ... cool guy ...

Thanks for all the tips, guys. We had a fantastic time playing there.

I hear you about the range being a little far away but it really wasn't too bad, maybe a 5 minute walk from the range to the clubhouse/1st tee area.

Thanks for the spa suggestions. My wife had very good things to say about it. She did end up getting a 50 minute treatment which she thought was very overpriced at nearly $200. Next time she will just go to the facilities and use the pools, saunas, etc.

Only negative about the course - I wanted to walk and was driving over from Tampa Bay so brought my own push cart. Unfortunately, you're only allowed to use their own pull carts... A little disappointed there.

Both courses were beautiful and in great condition. The layouts were pretty good too. The blue course was very wide open (even on their short holes). I hit 14 drivers and didn't come close to losing a ball. The red had much more variety. If you're not going to taken a caddy, I would suggest getting a yardage book. Both courses had a number of blind shots.

Overall, a great experience. Will definitely be back soon!

I am planning on spending a day at Streamsong mid April and looking to book tee times as far in advance as possible. Anyone with experience know how far out they book? Their website only shows like 45 days and I can't get through to the pro shop.

When I was planning Kiawah for the week before they booked over a year out over the phone so I was hoping to get something locked in sooner than later seeing that I would like to play Black then Red.

Finally got through today and for individual tee times for non resort guests it's 45 days. I have a notice in my calendar to call right away. Luckily only a single.

45 days if you are not spending the night. If you stay, you can book 1 year out. I am going to stay a night and play all 3 courses in December. I had previous plans to play both Red and Blue a day in June but changed my mind and decided to go in December (better weather) and the Black course will be open as well.

I am trying to decide when I am going to Streamsong. Had plans to play this past summer but decided to wait until the black course opens. Hoping to play these 3 courses along with innisbrooker copperhead and probably the island course.

I'd like to play all 3 but I only have one free day while I am in the Tampa area for a Wedding.

I was there last weekend and nice place... nothing to do but golf, eat and sleep.... its really cheap right now and caddies are 50/50... good value in the off season

Sadly I will be there in April so basically peak season. Still looking forward to it.

I'd like to hear more about peoples' experience trying to get on as a single. I'll be in the area in September and am looking to play either course, but it appears the website only allows groups of 3 or 4 to book. Curious if anyone showed up as a single, how long you had to wait to get paired up, or if they release open slots for singles at some point. Theoretically they should have some when threesomes book.

I had no trouble getting on as a single last February; albeit as a resort guest.

I have played both the red and the blue as a single and didn't have any problems getting on. Called a day ahead when I played the red and called same day and was able to get on later in the afternoon when I played the blue.

I'd appreciate any and all Streamsong tips. Headed down to Orlando for a buddy trip in March and we will drive to Streamsong for a day and play hopefully the Black. We do know it's walking only and that we can book 45 days out.

Anyone play the Black course yet?

I assume you cannot make a tee time as a single?

Yes, you can. 45 days in advance in not staying, anytime in advance if you are staying overnight there.

I don’t see an issue with getting 36 holes in showing up as a walk on at 7am. I’ve played about 20+ rounds there. Of which half were walk-ons.
