An Infamous History: JonesScott

ebrasmus21

Recommended Posts

I haven't been around here long enough to have really seen him in his prime but his infamy lives on. I may be playing with fire here but is anyone willing to describe the history of JonesScott and his antics? The comments and references I still see from time to time are often pretty funny.

Mods, if I'm way OB here feel free to delete or lock.

JonesScott was active just after I joined the forums. I actually was a bit scared that his routine was normal. He was very naive about the "golf scene" and started dozens of threads with mundane questions. The irony being that he had supreme confidence in his game.

Like Phil Mickelson said in his Feherety interview you either have to be immensely smart or stupid to thrive on the golf course. Jonesy was clearly not the deepest thinker and a young man without a lot of life experience to boot.

I did feel like he had not reached his potential as a player. The game he described came quite easy to him. Naysayers chastised the difficulty of his home course, his scoring record, lack of tournament and competitive golf experience, but I always wondered how quickly he might have adapted to different circumstances if given the opportunity.

I think he was more interested in finding direction and a career than actually just had a lot of sheer passion for the game.

I imagine he's moved on to working on a fishing boat in Alaska or training to be an underwater welder. He was all piss and vinegar. All reward risks be damned. Typical 19 year old really.

Jonesscott was a 52 year old pedophile living in his elderly mother's suburban basement posing as a 19 year old golfer.

Who could, "easily win the masters" incidentally.

It sounds like we never really knew if it was a a kid or a 45 year old living in his moms basement. What you described is what I remember of dear Jonesy.

Jones Scott was and is the most talented golfer of all time that had no clue about golf.

He was clearly good enough to turn pro. He didn't know how.

He was clearly good enough to Monday qualify. He didn't know how.

His ignorance robbed us of seeing possible the greatest golfer of all time.

No doubt he's going from course to course asking what the course record is before teeing off.

Jonsey. We hardly knew ya.

K.I.S.S.

Occam's Razor - The Simplest Answer is Usually Correct

I think he was a kid.

Never saw any proof that he was trolling. Trolls put in the least effort to get the greatest return. Jonesy would take the time to reply to every positive response with @MattJ - thanks, buddy! Great answer.

Stuff like that.

Twitter generation.

In my very humble opinion, easssy et al. ask for these kinds of users in the way that they index the forum and the search function. Older yahoo groups and the first forums always had a FAQ sticky and encouraged people to search for answers before posting to limit the static. This forum, due to timing and subject, actually generates revenue and enjoys the extra clicks. Non-profit forums didn't want the waste of bandwidth and static, that stuff pays the bills now.

He was an OTT fantasist more than a troll IMHO, as he only came back a couple times after the first ban.

Made for some entertain threads to while a way a work day, as OPB linked :)

He just took it too far and got banned, whereas someone like PT has kept the fantasies way more subtle over the years.

No something else.

One of the old timers is going to remember, the guy was borderline famous lol.

Oh bloody hell! That guy (Hombomb, Hambob) was a real human... tweeting porn stars and pics of 4 man field trophies he won. I wondered if he ever got sentenced or what not for some bar fight.

IIRC it was DV for beating his girlfriend. Also thought Thrill was referencing him because he had the staff bag with sponsors all over it, then got called out because guys like Byron Morgan and Callaway did not actually sponsor him as he described.

Ugh. JonesScott. There arent many people that post from the Seattle area. He shamed the whole Puget Sound area. I still remember reading his posts bragging about the course he was playing and thinking..."There can't be ANY way he is comparing playing Jackson Park with a PGA course."

The more I read through (and laugh) at the threads provided by one_putt_blunder I tend to agree with your assessment. Doesn't seem overtly trollish - just sounds like a young kid that liked to ask questions without thinking about what he was asking or what he was saying.

I might be weird but to me its funny as hell.
