Graphite Design DI P9003 is the best driver shaft ever

Golfer from MO

Recommended Posts

Tried this shaft on range with a buddy (from his driver exchangeable head). I hit it slightly higher with a flatter flight and STRAIGHTER than my 2 shafts listed - Diamana D+ 70tx and 70x kuro kage proto. Fitted for both of these shafts and game them happily with great results.

Imagine my surprise when I hit this shaft on a tighter line and 5-10 past my shafts....over and over ....and over. This is at the range and on course, there was no way to see it any other way. Im surprised theres not much mention here but be awate now.

The model I tested/now hitting is p9003tx. Its 80g low launch, 2.6 torque, stiff profile tip mid and butt.

Feel is still really good even though the profile claims stiff overall, also the 80g is slightly counterbalanced so it feels lighter than the 81g the tx is supposed to be; feels like 70.

Superior flight stability is my key takeaway - straight and on line with minimal curving which at higher swing speeds is appreciated so test one if you can.

The P9003 and M9003 are kind of cult-classic non-mainstream shafts that flat out perform for the right person.

They definitely get lost behind all the luster of the Tour AD line. (DI, BB, GT, DJ, MT, MJ, GP, TP. etc.)

It definitely takes someone who can swing the big stick to play these though.

They are in the AD line. They just fit such a small percentage of golfers, they aren't super popular. Great shaft for the right golfer, for sure. Just not many of the right golfers out there for these shafts.

I get the fact it needs horsepower to work but wow is this an amazing result - completely unexpected!

Any PGA players using them? I can't find anyone on any of the OEM pro equipment used sites.

Sung Yul Noh (sorry I think I just butchered his name) used to play the 9003 - not sure if he still does.

Sung Yul Noh (sorry I think I just butchered his name) used to play the 9003 - not sure if he still does.

They made the Z9003 for him and it was too stiff, said he couldn't torque it and feel was lacking. I had a TX of the Z9003 and to me it was in between a M90037X and a P9003tx.

IMO the p9003 is THE smoothest low launch low spin shaft ever made. I don't find the shaft to be boardy at all yet still delivers as promised. M9003 on the other hand is very boardy and takes the spin down even lower but in my experience was higher launch.

I have a very late release and tons of lag and these shafts can hang with my swing better than others. p9003 has been a staple in a ton of players FWYs, it was a lighter option with lower spin to the popular Pro95 from Fujikura.

I am currently using a Tensei White 80tx and I love it in my driver but I do still have a P9003 in my other driver in the closet. The P9003 for me was amazing at keeping spin down when I wanted to play a cut off the tee with the driver. The Tensei definitely spins a little more with a cut but I have since switched back to hitting it straight or a slight draw and it has produced some knuckle bombs.

The P9003 is definitely one that I cannot bring myself to let go and it may be getting a shot here again soon if I decide to pickup the new G400 driver to compare to my M1 setup.

Its definitely a shaft that will never leave my stable. Still surprised how good it feels and how well it handles a cut! Based on ALL my extensive shaft knowledge at higher speeds its the MOST stable, I just havent hit the tensei white yet or the PHEND. Very pleased. Considering mating it in the fairway now....

I just havent hit the tensei white yet or the PHEND.

Both are far more boardy feeling and play much stiffer IMO. Phene'd is higher launch but similar spin IMO. Tensei white is lower launch and maybe a touch more rising flight so more spin. Phene'd is on my radar for the bag. Need to find an X or TS maybe. TX is a beast. But man, power cuts are a thing!! That shaft is long long long and crazy low spin with just the right amount of kick.

P9003 to me is just so freakin smooth and has been the sole FWY shaft in my bag for 8 years or more now. Only possible contenders would be VS Proto 80x (or XPP8 Voodoo) or Pro95.

I've hit literally everything and I think that Graphite Design is offering a better product than any other shaft company right now. I love that you can get multiple weights in multiple profiles so you can maintain a similar feel between your driver, FWs and hybrids without having to search through different companies. I'm playing the GP6 in my driver, a TP8 in my 3 wood, and a DI105 in my driving iron.

Anyone know anything about this?

Just a proto to p9003. TX is like 10cpm's higher than X. I have two TX but with TaylorMade graphics.

Just snagged a P9003 TX off the Bay, and hit it today for the first time. I am used to monster shafts, but this was a beast. The few times I put a good-enough swing on it, it felt fantastic, and the ball never seemed to come down, mid-traj 1-yd cuts. But if I quit at all, it went nowhere.

This one might be significantly tipped, and I had it in a deep hosel with a light driver head, all of which would tend to stiffen it. But it felt like there was very little kick. I think the PO had it in a FWY, and that was my gut - with 10-15g more in the headweight, it would load and kick just perfect. Might try a little lead tape first.

But damn, those few good swings, the shaft felt lighter and crisper than my Silver 125 TX, which is a Cadillac in its own right. Also somewhat like the ACCRA RPG Gold 462 M5+. I'm getting spoiled.

Pardon the bump. Moved the P9003 TX (82g on my scale) into 3W. Holy cr*p. Thing is a killer. I didn't think anything could push 85TX Tour Green *hybrid* out of my FW, but these two are neck and neck. P9003 feels every bit as stable and solid, but just *nukes* the ball. Either way, I can't *wait* to hit 3W, and I haven't felt that way since heavily-tipped X100 in a 980F, like 20 yrs ago. #OldiesButGoodies

Just tried it in a couple days ago. That hybrid TG85TX in my FW has been magic for years. I couldn't load P9003TX in my driver, but am very impressed with it in 3W. Gonna do a head-to-head at a range sometime soon, and we'll see who comes out on top. Only 'wood' shaft I've liked in FW in a looong time.

I have G4 Hzrdus Black 60TX tipped 1" in a TSR4, but I'm not loving it yet. Expected to, cuz I *really* like G4 TX in hybrid, but so far, meh. Gonna give it a little more time. Stable, firm, but not much sensation of load. Distance is good. How does it feel to you? I see you have it softer and heavier.

UPDATE: getting used to it. Can load it better now. Hit a few bombs today. Reminds me of the TGi 110. REALLY firm, but light. Impressive what they can do with carbon these days. 70TX might be better for me. A little extra weight helps with tempo for me. Also somehow loads easier.

Firmly in the bag now. My favorite long club - goes a mile, straight as an arrow, plus I can cut it AND draw it, mostly on purpose. Definitely the best graphite shaft I've ever played, absolute magic in 3W. Can't find specs for it though! Would love to match it in driver, hybrid, even long iron...

Yup. But they don't have the TX listed. Here's what GD said in an email I got today:

"The P9003 model was a very stiff shaft with low torque. The closest shaft to the P9003-TX is our Tour AD VF7-TX. The torque of the VF7-TX is .1 degree higher and the weight is 3 grams lighter than the P9003-TX."

I will add: legit low torque seems to be a strength of GD shafts. Russ has tested many of them, and the heavier/stiffer models routinely come in sub-3°, some of them sub-2.5°, even in 0.335" woods.
Also, the more I hit the P9003TX, the more I get why I like it - it IS very low torque for a .335 shaft, especially tipped for FWY, AND the profile feels very linear, especially with a firm middle, but the handle has just enough give to feel load-y and kick-y. It sure goes like stink. Can't find an official EI for it, but I suspect very similar to the VF, with 'firm' handle, 'stiff' mid, and 'very stiff' tip. Which is exactly what GD said above.
