Dad just broke 80!!

Congratulations to my dad, Milton, who finally, after twenty years of playing golf, managed to shoot 79 at the young age of 66 at our home course - Aroostook Valley Country Club. Needed a birdie in the last three holes and managed to pull it off. Had been one of his golfing goals since he started playing. Dad plays every day and lives for golf in his retirement.

 

The old man is still my favorite playing partner, but I haven't been able to play at all with him this season due to a health problem resulting in a surgery, and it really sucks for me. I actually introduced him to golf when I was 16 years old, just about two years after my grandfather (his father) introduced me to the game. Our mutual like for Mizuno is an extension of us both playing baseball and using Mizuno equipment.

I gifted him his current driver and woods, because his long game was hurting due to not having clubs that were reliable and easy to use. Just have to get him to pick up a few more hybrids, but he doesn't want to give up his "woods irons." lol

 

Just passing it on. I was really thrilled for him and was sorry I wasn't there to see him do it.

Nice! Now, I don't consider 66 to be an "old man" anymore, but that's good shooting. Some of my best golf memories were with my Dad, as I'm sure is the same with others. Dad is still alive, but he's 88 and can't walk like he used to, so he hasn't played in a couple of year. We won a couple of GAM 'Father/son' events (out of the 5 or 6 we played) for our flight (the "century flight" where ages are > 100). Even shot 81 gross on a modified chapman!

One of very few people I look up to. Neither of us are perfect, but I will have no regrets about the time we spent playing. He always has time for me and my brother and sister. Couldn't ask for better parents with him and my mother.

Was lucky enough to be playing with my dad and oldest daughter when he broke 80 for the first time. He was in his early 70s - Dad had just started moving up to appropriate tees for him so he wasn't hitting woods into most of the par 4s. Been playing forward ever since!

For someone that started in their mid 40's that is a big milestone. Awesome!

 

I was talking with my father over the weekend and he told me he shot a good score. It wasn't until yesterday that I realized he was 1 stroke short of shooting his age. Trying to talk him into taking a lesson to see if we can get him to that milestone.

Ya, your dad is just a little older than I, lol, and 66 is definitely not "old" these

days. At 64 I still feel like kid..........and act like one too.

Congrats to your Dad! My Dad got me into Golf and we've had some great memories and battles over the years on the course. He is playing his best golf ever at 52 (I'm 27) and I enjoy watching him play well just as much I enjoy playing well myself (well, trying to!)

This is the first time I have swung a club in a year, and he might finally be able to beat me. I introduced him to the game 26 years ago and it has never happened.

 

I'm still hurt and recovering, but I think he will still take the win!

Last 3 years my dad has been within 1 stroke of shooting his age, always right around his birthday. He and my oldest daughter and I just got done and today he shot 79 just under 3 weeks shy of his 80th. Boy is he excited, and courtesy of

my wedge play whipped me! Fun day and thought of this thread sitting here waiting for our dinner.

Hi DP. Yes, I hooked him up with an Aeroburner. He's graduated to full playa mode because, out of nowhere, he asked if I had any lead tape. Truly a proud moment!
