Black Faced Driver-Fairways-Hybrids or Silver Faced

What is your preference & why?

 

I actually prefer the silver face just because it hides tiny scratches etc. better than the black.

 

I like to take care of my clubs & hate when they get dinged up. I don't know how many times I've taken a new club to the range only to end up scratching the face after a dozen hits or so. Seems like the sand in the soil will get between the face and ball on a less than perfect hit and the next thing you know my new club is marked up ugly. Sometimes if the grass is even a little wet the ball will get soil/sand stuck to it and knock the paint off that way too. Not so noticeable with the silver faces.

I personally don't have a preference, however, I just thought about my woods and they all have black faces. So I guess maybe I prefer black club faces more than I thought. Haha

I think it looks nice at address with the black face.. But won't disagree it gets worn. I also play the copper bettinardi wedges and those also fade to silver, unfortunately it is just part of the game. Rather have the wear there, than on top of the club head though!

If a metal does not have a polished face, I won't even swing it. Just preference. Really narrows things down though.

I preferred silver but those are very hard to come by. They're basically non existent in the newer stuff. I've always had a feeling that one of the reasons companies started doing black face woods was because they show wear MUCH faster and people would be prone to wanting to replace them more often. Hence more sales. Just my theory though.

Black. Silver looks kind of old and "rustic" looking while black is clean and modern.

Raw, Bare, Silver.

I bought a mate a 913D2 last October and the sale pics carefully hid the wear on the black face.

Recently found a mint one to upgrade him.

I see lots of Black Faced 2, 3 year old Fairways Ping, Callaway, Titleist looking thrashed and tired.

Here is pic of my Ping G5 that was thrashed.. i spent some time sanding it and Fresh Paint Fill !!!

I think for my two hours work its a Cool Resto !!

To Bobcat, Yes, will do the same to my R7 Quad for Xmas !!!

Black. Just addressing a silver faced driver looks so odd to me now.

 

edit: I hate the wear issues of the black face as well...any DIY ways to refinish?
