Only time, I was paired with another 2, one guy was pretty bad so I should have known. He took two to get his ball past my tee shot, I hit my approach, and started walking up the right side while he hit his 3rd. I was in trees 50 yds to his right! But as others here have said, skank alley. I heard the 'fore!' about a half second before impact. Right in the right shoulder blade. Felt like a mike tyson punch. Another foot left and up and who knows. Had a nice welt from that for a week.

Funny, until I read some of the comments, I could not tell what in the world the original post was trying to say. The people behind them hit them, people in jos own group hit him or what. A good reminder that whatever you might read on the internet, may have nothing to do with what really happened depending on how the clear the person posting it is.

I used to get hit all the time when I worked on a grounds crew in high school and undergrad. The old farts who take the early tee times don't give a f#ck if you're finishing the stripe on the green you started before they pulled up or not.

I'm not quite one of the old farts yet (damn whippersnapper) but I can reply to your post. I've had several times in the past year where a grounds crew member, being in the direct line of fire (IE directly where I'm planning on hitting my ball or within an accepted "good shot" dispersion) save me up after I get his attention by whoops no and hollering for minutes. In both cars they both put their heads down immediately and went back to work. If I do hit them who's at fault? I know damn sure it's not me. In both situations that this occurred I've hit a horrible shot well clear of them (and my intended line) because I didn't want to hit them. Those are shots that ruin rounds but I'd rather have a bad round then kill an idiot. It's pretty flustering though. I tell them they are in danger and they just don't care? I'm not going to hit right at them on purpose so it basically is equivalent of taking a penalty. Please be smarter than that golf course guys. It sucks to have you in my line of shot without you caring if I hit you. Maybe this is the only time it'll happen but these are literally top 100 public courses in the world, both of them. I'd rather not get worked up over someone not caring if they get hit or not and waving me through without paying any attention. In that case I purposely hit away from them. It sucks but it's all I can do. It costs me a strike every time. It would cost them 20 seconds to just pay attention. I'll gladly hit one into them from 150 if they're watching. You can dodge what you can see. You can't dodge what you can't.

Grounds crews often do a lousy job at communicating their intentions. Are they going to be 30 seconds on the green and want the player to wait, or are they on the green for 10 minutes and want the player to hit up?

Need to wave up or tell the player to hold up for a minute.

Last year I hit a grounds crew worker square in the chest from about 200 yards. He was fine but I still felt like a huge Word not allowed. There were 4 guys edging a sand trap, 3 stood up and watched as we tees off, one kept working. My turn come up and I hit the high floater, banana ball right and it’s tracking. I didn’t yell fore, instead I whistled as hard as I could (don’t do that) as it caused the guy that was working to stand up and walk right into the ball as if I was leading him throwing a football. Man, I felt like a dB.

What I learned is that there is a reason you’re supposed to yell fore instead of whistling.

I got cracked in the temple 10 feet away from a driver shank. Hurt like he'll.

Since then I always make sure I'm behind everyone I play with, not to the side, and definitely not in front of.

I lapsed once a month ago during a charity tournament and some drunk guy who had already hit dropped a second ball and whizzed one just past my head.

It's no joke. Gotta protect yourself at all times.

I've told plenty of golfers to wait for 30 seconds and they hit right up any ways. It's about 50/50. Half the people will wait while the other half does not give a poop.

I worked (and still do very part time) on a grounds grew for about 4 years. I was never hit by a ball. Actually , never even came close.

I've played golf close to 50 years and have never hit anyone or been hit by a golf ball. I've seen a couple get hit in the head by others that required stitches tho. I did fall off the back of a golf cart once and broke a wrist......but I'm not going into that. ;)

Same sort of thing happened to me about 19 years ago. It was only my 4th year of playing golf. Myself and two other guys, playing as a walking threesome. I tee off, pull it a bit left, lands over in the rough of the adjacent fairway. Second guy slices off to the right, but shorter than my shot. Third guy splits the fairway.

We all walk to our respective shots. I get to mine, assess the situation, pull out a club, and on the second practice swing *SMACK!*. Right in the back of the head. Luckily for me it was after a one-hop, not a direct hit.

I immediately turn around to look towards the tee of the fairway I'm standing next to. When I had looked before there was no one there. And still, no one there. Now I'm baffled. "Who hit me? There's no one else around". I turn back towards my own fairway, and the guy who hit his shot straight is bent over laughing his Word not allowed off.

The guy who had sliced it right, but 50 yards behind my shot is walking in my direction. As he reaches me he says "did you see mine come this way?". He had no clue he hit me. I said "Yeah, you effing hit me in the head!!".

That hurt. As I said, I was lucky it wasn't full force.

My husband loves to tell the story of having taken one to the rib cage. He swears you could see the dimples in the bruise.

I'm surprised more people don't get hit; I'm always amazed by how many people don't think twice about getting way out in front.

This!

WTH people! Why are you walking in front of someone before they hit? And evidently not even watching as they hit. If you are going to be dumb enough to walk up in front of someone while they are hitting, how hard is it to at least turn around and watch them hit? Use a little common sense.

I was about...13, maybe 14....and playing with one of my best friends. His father dropped us off and would be picking us up. He always bombed his drives, and I always duffed mine off the tee. He decided to walk ahead over a hill and get to his ball. Meanwhile I'm sitting there just barely past the ladies tee trying to advance the ball.

I do, and happen to pull it. My friend was over the hill and I couldn't see him, but yelled "FORE" knowing that it was going in his general direction.

Next thing I know I see him rubbing the back of his neck. I had tagged him right on the bone although not directly. What happened next was very eye-opening to me. The conversation went like this...

Me - "Dude I am so sorry. I yelled FORE but I don't think you heard me."

Him - "I didn't hear it, but that's not a bad thing. I probably would have turned around and gotten hit in the face!"

Me - "Jeez. I feel bad."

Him - "It's all good. But DO NOT tell my dad about this. AT ALL."

Me - "Sure. But why?"

Him - "Because if he found out that I walked in front of a player who was hitting he would KILL ME. PERIOD."

The first rule of golf I learned was that you don't walk through someone's line. The second rule of golf I learned was you don't walk in ahead of whoever is hitting. LOL

I had one take a bounce then hit the top of my head and land right beside my ball that I was about to hit.

I saw a guy get crushed in the arm by a drive. Some guy hit into a group and pelted the guy in the fairway. The person that was hit screamed some obscenities, teed the ball up and cranked it into the woods. It was pure awesomeness.

I grew up with a kid that was hit in the head with a ball and it permanently messed him up. He had to take medication the rest of his life.

I've been hit at least ten times in the last 30 years, was caddying back in the day....riding shotgun with the caddy master. We were cutting across a fairway close to the tee.... never saw it coming, got hit hard in the shoulder. I fell out of the cart, thought I had been shot! The woman who hit me was not too concerned....

It finally happened after playing this game for the last 20 years. Yes I have had plenty of close calls but to say I wanted it to happen this way doesnt do it justice. Playing as a twosome we were partnered up with 2 singles. Both nice guys. The guy had a suspect game but kept the pace of play on point so it didnt bother me too much. Second hole in and we run into a single who the pro shop let out for some odd reason. So playing as a fivesome, we play ready golf and keep pace with the ladies foursome in front of us. 4rth hole in and the guy pull hooks it into the other fairway, manages to hit it into the tree and back into the rough of the hole we are playing. I on the other hand was waiting in the fairway for my approach shot. He was about 40 yards back and to the left of me about another 40 yards away. I was waiting on the other guys also hitting their approach on the fairway when I got the green light to start my pre shot routine. Not a second or two later I feel a big smack to my right lower buttox area. Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What was that registered in my mind. The other 3 guys who were watching me at the time all reacted with several 4 letter words that basically described what I was feeling. I was surprised at first then turn around looking at the guy walking towards me. The guy was real upset with himself and kept saying sorry. It was a line drive and everybody kept saying that any higher and it would of hit me in the spine and really think about it could have done some serious damage to the back of my head. Damn is all I kept saying. Luckily it hit my Arse because I have enough padding back there. Boy lucky to really not be any more injured than just a big welt back there. The guy ended up walking off the course after all was said and done. I told him he didnt have to quit. I looked on the brighter side. We ended up picking up the pace and my injury didnt affect me too bad.

Getting hit by a golf ball ain't like getting cr@pped on by a pigeon... It doesn't bring good luck!

The first time I got hit, on one hole (the first hole!), it bounced by me. The second time (the second hole) it sconed me square between the shoulders. "Luckily" it was on the bounce

I went my first 8 years of playing without ever getting tagged. Last summer, I took a thin toed iron shot to the back of my left thigh as well as a lateraled hybrid to the ribs. I luckily saw the rib shot coming enough to turn away from it, otherwise I was taking that one in the abdomen. Both times, I was at my cart getting a club and a decent distance away & off to the right. I was cornered by the cart and couldn't get away from the rib shot. Both left "smeared golf ball-looking" bruises.

A bag of left-handed junk.

If it makes you feel any better since we have been putting manmade objects into space 1 falls from the sky every 10 days so roughly 17,000 of those have fallen from space back to Earth without even hitting one person.

I've been hit 3 times!

First time I was about 13 or 14 and if we were looking at it as a right angle, I must have been about 1 degree in front of the guy that was playing. Somehow and I still have no idea how he managed it, the guy hit the shot and it flew right at me. I was maybe ten yards away from him and it hit me right in the chest. That HURT! I ended up with a bruise, dimples and all, for weeks.

The second and third time has been from stray balls coming from the driving range when there was no shout of fore at all. The first hit me in the foot and wasn't too bad, the next one hit me right on the ankle, that was sore. I'm not normally a confrontational person but I really gave that guy a piece of my mind.

Yeah, but there's a big Chinese space station or satellite coming down in the next couple of weeks. That might prove to be, errr, interesting?

I've been hit on a bounce a few times before. Last week I was hit on a direct line for the first time. I was over the green and my buddy was about 35-40 yards back. He hit and it went right up into the sun so I couldn't see. He then said, "Heads up!" so I turned and covered my head. I swear 3 to 5 seconds pass and I thought I was clear when it nailed me in the ribs. This was basically a lob shot with no RPMs and it freaking felt like I couldn't breathe for a few minutes! It was a decent little stinger.

I’ve met two people whose eyeballs were ruptured by a golf ball. One lost his eye the other has blind spots. One guy was hit walking up 18 and was hit by an errant drive from the first tee.

The other guy was hit by his buddy when he bladed a flop shot by the green. Neither saw it coming, neither was out of position.

I’ve hit myself twice in the head and once in the belly. After a while, you get to where you don’t mind it so much.
