Trip to West (Golf) Coast, September

I know this info is undoubtedly in another thread that I have overlooked in search, so with apology...

On short notice found a chance to go and will be playing for 5-6 days on the West Coast in September...flying Manchester, locating for the most part near Southport.

Will play Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham, Formby--already booked. Still trying to finalize Hillside or S&A? Have not succeeded at Royal Liverpool.

Also, due to a real like for Mackenzie I am taking a side trip over to Alwoodley.

Knowing setting anything up at this point is a challenge, any tips on Hillside vs S&A (or Hesketh?) for the final day? I generally don't go 36 due to (ha) very advanced age...only some of the body joints show up on any given day...

Also...Interesting pubs, places to eat, etc?

Any thoughts at all very welcome and appreciated!!

I would rule Hesketh out, Hillside and S&A are both far better. I personally would pick Hillside but both are good courses, just personal preference. The back 9 at Hillside is special. If you fancied mixing it up and playing some parkland it would be worth looking at Sandiway near Northwich in Cheshire. One of my personal favourites. As for places to eat/pubs dont really know about Southport, but Liverpool is just a short train journey away and there is plenty to choose from here.

We ate at an Italian place in Formby that was outstanding, albeit ten years ago. Can't remember the name but judging from a quick Google I think it was Don Luigi's. Walking distance from Formby Golf Club and as I recall the mussels were particularly yummy. Hope that's that's the right restaurant.

Hillside all day everyday. Can not stress this enough! Some of the locals say the back 9 at Hillside is the best 9 in the area. S&A isn't a bad course but it's not in the same league as Hillside in my opinion
