Matthew Fitzpatrick Still Using PING G25 3 Wood - For The Win!

Recommended Posts

I noticed that he just won last week with this trusty G25 3 wood still in the bag. Pretty cool to see the longevity of that club.

I find it interesting that a smaller guy like him, who would likely benefit from the additional tech (and distance) of the most recent fairway woods, is still using a club that was released nearly five years ago.

Anyone else still game these fairway woods and feel like they aren't losing anything to the more modern offerings??

Until this year, I used a 5 year old fairway wood. Every year I would demo newer stuff and there wasn't really anything that would beat it. This year I finally found something that was a little lower spinning, but launched just as well.

I've said it many, many times, and there was a certain wrxer who hasn't been around in a long time that would agree: "once you find a fairway wood you love, never let it go." I find them to be MUCH more personal than a driver, and almost as much as a putter (nothing is harder to find than the perfect wedge to me) but a fairway wood is very close, and performance differences to me are rather drastic, in terms of play-ability and preference.

If you look close, there's a lot of pros who use older fairways. IMO, the holy grail of fairways is one which you're consistent with off the deck. It makes sense that you'd have a hard time finding clubs that you can hit reasonably high off the deck, carry a consistent yardage (250 yards+ for many) and still be able to hit a green with it.

Still bag the G25 15* with the stock Tour stiff shaft.

230 yard carry off the tee and deck. It's just about as automatic a 3wood that I've found. It also doesn't have any bizarre stuff on the crown like all the newer offerings.

Their called turbulators and they make you a better golfer.. come on man.

I've got speed steps and they've dropped close to two strokes off my index this year on their own..

If only they could introduce tungsten somehow.. then the club would hit themselves basically! ;).

I totally agree, all the newest stuff is gawdy and awful. I hate looking at the clubs in the top end of my bag, but they do perform enough to outweigh the looks. Basically, they have a really nice personality.

Still have the G25 4 wood securely in the bag

The 2016 M2 3HL unseated it for a hot minute (like 1.5 rounds) with a couple heroic shots that I couldn't duplicate, but the G25 is just too dumb stupid easy to hit

It's nice when you have 235 forced carry over water from the deck.. and NO FEAR

Not just the turbulators, but the dragon-fly, and whatever new paint/color scheme every manufacturer puts on the crown for us all to look at.

I've pretty much resigned myself to picking up a titleist driver since it's the only remaining company that keeps it basic and simple still.

I use the G25 4w and 7w. They are so reliable, I honestly haven't even thought of trying anything else.

I still use G25 3 & 5 wood, 23* hybrid and irons.

I've tried other clubs but I seem to be the most comfortable and consistent with the G25's.

Although I'm continuously looking for that magical big stick (driver to you folks) that will give me an extra 20 yards overnight I'll never get rid of my Vsteels. I'm not looking for distance from them but I do look for ease of hitting it off the deck and feel, and they do an awesome job.

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

"Loft for loft, length for length, and shaft for shaft, the ball will go the same distance when hit on the sweet spot regardless how old the iron."

Recently picked up a sub zero 15 turned down a degree and its not as good as my vsteel spoon for both distance off the tee and playability off the deck. If it ain't broke !!!!

Side note he is also using a Yes Tracy putter from when he was a junior

The milled Yes! putters are classic. Still as good as anything out there.

His is a Tracy 2 model as far as i have read. So his is a special milled model or stock yes putter? Hard to think he would have a tour only model when he was a junior. Kinda like to get one myself. Wife's name is Tracy. I have a Yes Jennifer i recently pulled out of the closet a few weeks ago. Centre shaft model with nice sight line, feels great. Rolls even better. Fitz win's with a Yes so there might be a run on Yes on ebay.

the 3 wood is a powerful weapon once you find one that works..

most players would probably keep their current driver,3 wood, sand wedge and putter if and when they change clubs..

among these clubs the driver would probably the easiest to replace and the 3 wood the hardest..
