more forgiveness, distance, and still look like a blade? I think that is a pipe dream....lol.

I played MP5's last year and had the same thought as you. The JPX 900 Forged are perfect, enough so that I bought a second new set.

They are longer, more forgiving, and the 9-P actually look better than the 5's, more compact.

Ok, I will be a bit biased, Ping iBlades have been the most forgiving "player" irons I've played, I also have the Callaway TA Prototypes and they are surprisingly forgiving as well, not to mention just sexy looking...

Hi all,

I have a dilemma...

I have always played a set of blades, even when I first started

From Cleveland CG tours to Adams MB2's

Currently I have a set of Cobra King Pro combos, which I do hit really well, but I play off 10 so I do have some bad rounds where I could do with a bit more help.

This whole thought pattern came from a recent trip to San Diego where I borrowed a set of new Callaway Steelheads from the pro shop

The distance gain alone I had from these irons was enough for me to start thinking! Then when my swing wasn't too hot, the forgiveness was pretty amazing!

I am not saying these steelheads were my favourite iron, they didn't suit my eye that well, but I did hit them very well

My question is, based on my current irons and previous, if you were me, what irons would you move to next that would give me that extra distance and forgiveness, but still look as sexy as a blade?

Thanks

If these were available in right handed for this price new, direct from the manufacturer, I would probably buy another set.

I am replacing my whole bag this winter and am struggling with the irons switch.

On my short list (but ever changing) I have the following irons:

Titleist 718 AP1/ 3 and 4 iron, Titleist 718 AP2 5 through 9

Mizuno MP18 Fli Hi 3 and 4 iron, Mizuno MP18 SC 5 through 8, Mizuno MP18 9 and PW

Ping I200 or Ping blades (These clubs will have to wow the hell out of me to supplant them with the first 2 choices on my list

Just wanted to thank everyone for the replies!

So clearly I need to go and hit some of these, but shortlist wise I think the following need to be considered;

Mizuno MP18sc

Srixon 765/565

Titleist AP2

Those seem to be the overriding choices for everyone, the Mizunos seem to be recommended the most though!!

Will post back when anything changes, thanks again!

The AP2's look half decent and feel ok. It's a big step moving from blades to GI irons, just remember that the lofts will be strong on the Steelheads and any club in this category, like a full club difference. You might get the best of both worlds with a forged cavity back club.

I just bought a set from Global Golf in like new condition. They are stunning irons. Perfect size and shape, amazing feel and really pretty forgiving. For that price, it's a fantastic deal

I see everybody liking the Srixons and I don't disagree on the feel and performance but we should note that the V sole is not for everybody (shallow/sweeper and loyal Mizuno players).

Secondly, the Srixon soles are wider as well which won't bode well in firm conditions.

Thirdly, when you do groove your swing in, the Srixons do feel bulky.

When you do try to blend a set, the offsets and bounce are affected/awkward depending on your loft set up.

Lastly, the Srixons have strong lofts on the low and high end which makes gapping your set very difficult.

Due to above reasons, the Srixons didn't suit me.

This was my experience.
