Here's The Scenario - What Would You Do?

So I'm in a skins game with about 30 guys. There is a tough par 4 that usually will guarantee a skin if you make a birdie. So my buddy & me both get on the green in 2. I hit a miracle shot that ended up about 2 feet from the cup. my buddy is on the green but has a 35-40ft down hill slider. He putts & makes it. I have basically a gimme to cancel him out. This is what happened. Due to a similar experience with the same guy a few months earlier where we canceled each others skin which lead to missing out on about $300, we vowed from that point on that if it happened again that the first one of us to get the birdie on any hole that the second guy would purposely miss his birdie putt if that putt was more or less a gimme. If the skin held up we would split the money. So I missed the gimme & we got paid. We figured half is better than nothing. What would you have done?

yeah scamming like when the low handicappers beg the high handicappers to get in the skin game when they know they have little chance to win a skin. The low HCP's just want more money in their pockets. Do they ever feel guilty? Nope. Because in there mind the high HCP's have a chance. Not much of a chance but that's how they rationalize it.

In any competition, be it stroke play, match play, or even a skins game its every players obligation to protect the field. That includes not only respecting and observing the rules but in this case always trying your best. An obligation you obviously and deliberately failed. With 30 players there was probably not an insignificant amount of $$ at stake. Not cool.

Next time you just tap in and get your buddy to miss - far more believable. Or just ask the other 28 guys for money before you play, you know, to save time.

There is so much wrong with this scenario that there is no good place to start. You and your buddy straight up cheated. There is no justification. If you don't like the way the skins are done, don't play.

We play gross and net skins in the same game. Gives everyone a chance.

This. If you legit missed the 2 footer, fine. The problem is you agreed with your buddy to never cancel a skin again. This is the same as being in the final group to play a par 3 with a closest-to-the-pin and all agreeing the just write a name from the group on the card and share the prize.

 

Cheating. It's a d!ck move, at best.

I think I remember a story about Lee Trevino greasing clubs in golf games he played for large sums of money. Cheating for sure. Do we all have less respect for Trevino after he admitted to cheating? I don't, but you guys probably don't like him once you found that out, right?

 

Look, I know the majority of the guys in this game & they all bend/break the rules to their advantage. whether it be improving their lies, using illegal equipment or taking free drops cause surely their ball didn't go OB, It must have plugged. While what we did wasn't exactly cheating but may have been unethical I don't feel bad about knowing what goes on in this group. As long as it's not too blatant know really cares.
