Need advice on booking golf pkg Myrtle Beach

Recommended Posts

Considering booking a golf stay and play in Myrtle Beach during April, 2018. Realize it is high demand season. Any suggestions on packages for about a week stay? Four golfers. Who do you book golf with here? Must play courses? One single digit golfer, one 12, one 15, one 18.

Thanks,

DC

Part of the decision will be based on budget. The high end courses will have green fees in the $150+ per round range in April. If that is within your budget the best courses in MB are:

Caledonia

True Blue

The Dunes Club

Barefoot Love, Fazio and Dye

Grande Dunes

The 90+ golf courses that are generally referred to as Myrtle Beach actually cover an area of 90+miles from Bald Head Island in the north to Founders Club in the south. There are good courses at the north end, south end and in the center and IMO it makes for a better trip to focus on one area rather than galavanting up and down the coast. Go to Google maps and take a look at where the courses are located and use that in your planning

If you want to focus on the north end, I'd suggest Rivers Edge, Tigers Eye, Leopards Chase, Oyster Bay, Thistle, Glen Dornoch and Bald Head Island.

If you are looking for some lower priced courses, The three courses at legends resort are centrally located and usually have great prices. They also include Heritage which is located at the south end and Oyster Bay in the north.

Brian Noblin of Myrtle Beach Golf Packagers is reputable and will help you put together a custom package that will work for your group. You should call or e-mail him to discuss your plans, get advice and get a quote. You won't go wrong with the courses I've mentioned and there are a number of other that you would also enjoy, such as TPC, Kings North, Tidewater, Willbrook and the Witch

Here's a link to photo tours of about 50 MB courses: https://www.flickr.com/photos/golfcoursepix/collections/72157632004669462/

Sabram, I have played Jack's course at Pawleys Plantation, TPC, and the Witch on my one trip several years ago and loved every course. We may stay at Kingston Plantation but not sure. I will definitely check with Brian Noblin once we firm up a date. Thank you for the info!

Any other suggestions ?

I have been to MB for four trips and found Kingston Plantation is a great location. I stayed there for three weeks in May of this year, and played 10 rounds of golf. It is about 50 minutes drive from Kingston down to Heritage, TPC Myrtle Beach, Caledonia, True Blue... those will be more expensive courses. Closer to where you are staying , I echo Sabram's comments. The three courses at The Legends Resort are convenient and fairly priced. Also close by is MB National with three courses.

You want to get a mix of courses, lots of top notche are playable. If you don't want to travel play courses close to you. I also recommend Calling Brian Noblin at www.myrtlebeachgolfpackagers.com, also go to www.myrtlebeachgolftalk.com to get more information from people who live and breathe MB golf.

There are a ton of nice courses there and Brian will guide you to them.

we have done the legends for 3 years now. super easy- call the legends everything will be set up. check in is easy, courses are fun- drive down to heritage as part of your package. you have access to the massive practice facility including unlimited balls until about 10pm every day( you stay in a villa on on the property) packages included breakfast lunch and beers. its central myrtle with access to everything.

oh and the courses are good, a dye course, a doak course and another decent track that is on the resort.

I see both Legends and Barefoot every time I look up golf in MB. These are the top ten courses on my list so far:

King's North

Farmstead

Dunes Golf and Beach Club

Tidewater

Barefoot (Fazio, Dye, or Love)

Tiger's Eye

Glen Dornoch

River's Edge

Bald Head

Grand Dunes

We won't be able to play more than probably four of them. Might be a three or four day trip.

There are lots of opinions on which courses are best. When I was in MB in May I chose those that Golfweek Magazine listed as the Top Courses You Can Play in South Carolina. The list is below, you can choose those from the North MB area which is where I think you said you are staying.

South Carolina

  • 1. Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, Kiawah Island (No. 15 m)
  • 2. Harbour Town Golf Links, Hilton Head Island (No. 47 m)
  • 3. The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, Myrtle Beach ©
  • 4. May River Course at Palmetto Bluff, Bluffton (m)
  • 5. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, Pawleys Island (m)
  • 6. True Blue, Pawleys Island (m)
  • 7. Tidewater Plantation GC, North Myrtle Beach (m)
  • 8. The Walker Course at Clemson, Clemson (m)*
  • 9. Palmetto Dunes (Jones), Hilton Head Island (m)*
  • 10. Myrtle Beach National (King’s North), Myrtle Beach (m)
  • 11. TPC Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet (m)
  • 12. Legends Golf Complex (Moorland), Myrtle Beach (m)
  • 13. Barefoot Resort (Dye), North Myrtle Beach (m)
  • 14. The Heritage Club, Pawleys Island (m)
  • 15. Grande Dunes GC, Myrtle Beach (m)

how is tidewater on that list? played it a few times,(friend has a condo on the property) and i never really cared for it. i dunno course is really overrated imo. im surprises that pawleys plantation isnt on the list. that is a solid track and i would rank that higher than the heritage and and way higher than tidewater.

This list is from Golfweek Magazine for 2016 and Tidewater is also on their list for 2017. So if you were asking me the question, I do not have the answer...

i agree. being from the carolinas i wouldnt put tidewater on the list. when it comes to the MB area i am of the opinion it is Caledonia then true blue and then everyone else...

Drove down there with some buddies for Spring Break last year and really enjoyed King's North and TPC Myrtle Beach! If you play one of the other courses on the property in the morning you can play King's North for a replay fee which is a heck of a deal! Also heard great things about True Blue while we were down there... Also would recommend Long Bay as a relatively good value!

I agree with others saying call Brian at MB Golf Packagers.

Best in your list are: KN, The Dunes, TW, BF Dye/Fazio, Grande Dunes.

Glen Dornoch is scenic, but has old slow bermuda greens.

Rivers Edge is scenic, but conditions are only average.

All of your list are good. Farmstead would be the least memorable. Bald Head is a long drive all day project.
