Rickie hits it pretty long for a little guy or any size guy actually. He averaged just over 300 yards this season. I don't believe woods can poke it out there that deep consistently without hurting himself again.

 

Spieth averaged 296 off the tee last year Fowler hits it 300 on average. Only 43 guys averaged over 300 yards last year. He doesn't need to be DJ or Rory.

So the guy gets cleared to hit a driver and you guys assume that's the best he's gonna be? It might just be that he's cleared to start strengthening his swing. So in six or seven weeks that clubhead speed might be much higher.

 

I reserve judgement until he steps on the course.

 

Also someone on here had it right, his real skill was never his length, it was his shotmaking. He could throw darts in close and could putt lights out. Both of those two things are achievable with a shorter tee shot length.

I highly doubt he would even try to come back if he couldn't get the ball out there at least in the 295-300 range....and who is to say he would be shorter? He was getting it out there pretty good last year and he was in pain the whole time....I would think that if he is indeed finally pain free then he would be able to get it out there at least the same if not maybe a little farther once he gets his speed back up from hitting balls.

After all the crap he has been through, he needs a comeback badly. Winning another major would be one of those moments

in golf we will not forget, even the haters might appreciate it. Swing certainly looks solid and I think he is better off playing in

events right away instead of pounding 1000's of balls on the range. Take some baby steps, make a cut, finish four rounds without

pain, work your way up the board and eventually get back in the winners' circle.

Nice smooth swing but when he steps up to the tee and some other player hits it 50 yards passed him, he will try to take a violent swing to keep up and tweak his back again. Love the tempo and smoothness when he's on the range but that goes away when he's on the course. I think he tweaks his back again this season or early next year and has to face the realization that he cannot be healthy enough to play again.

 

I do hope what I just said is false and can still play and be healthy though.

Personally he did more than I thought he'd so. That said, he HAS to change the way he plays or it's completely over. You can't go at the ball a thousand miles an hour with a bad back. It's time for the equipment to some of the work.

All it really takes on Tour is 275 carry to consistently hit it over 300 yards on those fairways. That's pretty pedestrian. I'm quite sure he's capable of more than that. He will never swing 125 again but even 115 will get it out there 300+ on tour.
