Cleveland CBX wedges thoughts

I’ve been checking these out recently, so I’m glad to see this thread. I used to have a very efficient short game and the one constant was that the wedges I used had what I would call “slippery” turf interaction on chips and pitches. Any chip/pitch I hit, the club would glide over the turf with no digging and no divot. It led to very consistent results. I moved to a new state, however, and found turf interaction to be more fickle in the different turf conditions here. As a result,my short game suffered.

I had a chance to hit on if these out of a bunker the other day and got the same “slippery” interaction I remember from my old wedges. Been thinking about picking one up ever since.

I think this fits well how my 52 (51) feels. It seems easy to hit a low pitch without hitting it fat or feeling like I will blade it. Just get a little shaft lean and turn through the ball and clean contact is really the norm -- the club feels slippery, like it just goes through smoothly, no chance of it digging.

I got mine as a gap wedge but would love to see how a 60 feels for pitching. I don't really know if these wedges can hit all the shots. I want to be highly proficient at the three or four short-game shots I will play 95 percent of the time. To me, making consistency seem more easily attainable is the hallmark of these clubs.

Thinking of picking these up. I play to a 6 but like the pm grind and other "round" shovel type wedges as I like to pitch the ball off the toe side of club. These wedges look and feel so great but for the very slight offset. Has anyone tried bending them weak a bit to decrease offset? If so How did the sole Play/bounce play thereafter?

Wondering about bending out offset here too... anyone?

Not sure if this applies here but I thought about this with the RTX3 wedges. Every decrease in loft seemed to accompany an increase in visual offset so it seemed counter-productive.

If you bend them weak (50 bend to 52) shouldn't it increase loft, increase bounce, and decrease visual offset?

I'm a hacker, about a 13 hi. And I love my CBX 50 degree. Has made work around the green a whole lot more fun. I can go high or low, just gives me a consistent, predictable shot far more often than other wedges I've used. Good out of the rough. I'm not a digger, tend to be a picker, and this thing has worked out remarkably well for me--holed out from 50 yards with it, earning a round of applause from the adjacent fairway. If you're on the fence, buy one.

Yes but what my eye showed was more offset in the 50 compared to the 52, so that bending the 50 weak basically gave you the 52 offset-wise but changed the sole design. In my mind nothing positive would be gained or very little anyway. If offset was constant then yes it would make sense.

I was one of the lucky testers of the CBX wedges. I asked for a 54 with a C-Taper to match my iron shafts. I really enjoy hitting the CBX. I only play it on full shots and out of the sand for the most part though. I hit this wedge so much higher than any other 54 degree wedge I have had before. It makes it very easy to stop on the green.

That is why you would bend them weak, not strong.

I know its more the hosel/heel relief and there is not much offset, but I cannot stand how it looks behind the ball.

You may be right that the 52* has less offset than the 50, but to my eye the 52 RTX3CB (not CBX, but same offset appearance) has the same offset as the 54.

Bend 52-->54, diminish the visual offset.

Anyone try it? The ONLY reason I'm hot bagging these is I hate looking at them behind the ball. Confidence behind the ball matters.

If they look the same then bending it weak makes sense. I agree they don't have a classic players look to them that I have gotten used to. Results are good but mentally I fight it at address. Too much material where the top line meets the hosel makes it appear like even more offset.

I picked up a 50, 56, and 60 to try. I haven’t gotten to work much with the 50 and 56. One thing I will say about the 60 is visually it will take a while to adjust depending on what you were gaming before. The 60 sole is very wide and the club itself looks huge behind the ball. The 50 and 56 look a bit better to my eye upon initial impressions.

Yeha keep me posted. I currently have a 54 and 58 rtx3. When looking for a 50* at golftown, I compared the cbx next to the rtx 3 and 3 cb, it actually looks much better at address than the RTX 3 cb. Looks like less offset with a better shape!

I have played both. CBX is definitely the more game improvement wedge of the two. It goes longer, the Glides have more spin. Don't get me wrong, the CBX lands and checks up quickly, but the Pings will stop on a dime.

Both feel fine to me. CBX is a better trouble club I would say. Glides a little more of a precise wedge. I only have the CBX in gap wedge (52 bent to 51). I have played Glides in 50, 54 and 58.

I have finally been able to get out and play a couple of rounds with the CBX 50*. I am falling in love with this thing. Seems like every swing you take with it produces a shot that goes right to the flag. Very easy to flight high or low, whatever the situation may require. Definitely a winner for bumps or chipping as well. I’m guessing it is only a matter of time before I add a 54 and 58 to go with it.

Replaced my 50 and 56 with cbx - high, towering, effortless flag finders......

56 much more confident out of sand on top of that as well

keep the rtx3 60 for now - like that blade for short range or flexibility around green still

Can't say enough about the CBX

Thinking of flipping the 60 rtx3 into a cbx now as well....Anyone do that?

thoughts on greenside with it? chip and pitch, etc?

nervous about it a little in the 60

still completely in love with it in the 50 and 56

I did just a New Year. The RTX3 was great around the green, bunkers and shots from 60 yards and in but on full shots it was really lacking.

The CBX is much better on full shots and VERY predictable around the greens. The flight on chips/pitches/bunker shots is a shade lower bit once you get used to it I find it easy to get within certain distances of the hole.

Not looking back!

The Cleveland CBX 54 and 58 wedges are the only non Taylormade clubs in my bag. So easy to hit full shots with them and around the green they are almost too easy. The only downside I have seen is when I try to open the 58 for a flop shot the wide sole somehow doesn't allow the club to slide through the taller grass around the greens. This is only on finesse shots. But this is just my findings. Give them a try you wont be disappointed.

I like the CBX. I used it quite a bit last season. It's great on full shots and you can definitely do a variety of shots around the green with it. When my short game is off I lean on the CBX heavily. It's very forgiving. It has a bit of offset so if you are put off by offset you won't like them. They are excellent wedges in my book.

REALLY tempted to try the cbx 60 in place of the rtx3 .....feel like i shouldn't almost, but the 52 and 56 are pushing me hard in that direction

The CBX is the real deal. I was shocked at how good they performed last year plus the dg115 stock shaft works great with these heads. Don't think you'll be disappointed. They are a little bigger no doubt but it's a awesome design that actually really does work well.
