Cleveland CBX wedges thoughts

Today I played awful. I played from the sand like 6/7 times so I put my 58 CBX to the test. I’m a decent player from green side bunkers. But this club is almost like cheating from the sand. Good lies, fried eggs, feet off the sand, ball well below my feet. This club is gold, and some more gold.

I think it's probably the first club in years that really did bring some innovation/real help. Most who try these see some serious improvements with their short game. I'm not talking about the low handicaps of course but the 10 or above imo.

I've never believed wedges made a huge difference in the sand but since I've started using my 54 58 getting out of the sand has become so easy for me. And forgiveness on full shots is just crazy. I'm a believer

I am getting a news set of Rogue X Irons, 5 - PW.

The PW is 41* , I was wondering if the CBX 46* would be a good AW?

The Rogue set has a AW(46) GW (50) , SW, LW.

I use a CBW 56* SW and a 60* LW ?

I would get 54/55 and 60.

I didn't believe it at first, but it's true. A set with both an approach and a gap wedge? That's crazy! With that set you really have to ignore what's printed on the iron and just go with lofts :D

Why is that?

I have P790s up to Approach (50). Thinking of a 54 in CBX, but a traditional blade 58 wedge for touch shots around the green.

This becomes a personal taste and preference decision. I can tell you that there is nothing inherently wrong or problematic with the CBX wedges over 50*. Sure, they are big and chunky, but they are excellent on full shots, reliable on beefy chips and pitches, and just fine for finesse shots around the green and from bunkers. They're not for everyone, and certainly don't need to be. But they are very good wedges.

I honestly thought that CBX 50* might be a great gap wedge for me. Bought one but, doesn’t fit my eyes nor do I like the slight offset. It’s not that forgiving as I anticipated. I’ve found Misuno S18 and SM7 works better for me. It’s going on BST or eBay.

Thinking about getting a 50 in this. All the pics look a little clunky but supposedly less so in the gap. I have the Srixon 765 irons any thoughts on how they matchup? Or just how the 50 compares with the RTX-3 in profile? I’ve got the rtx-3 blades and was looking at the CB but guess they’ve been discontinued for the cbx.

wareagle, it is great on full shots, pitch shots take some getting used to because of the extra distance, but the chip shots require a little more touch around the greens. 50 is a great idea but if you plan on going 60, you may want something else unless it will strictly be used for close, steep sand traps to the green.

Finally got around to receiving the 50, 54, 58. Put some time on the SkyTrak in the garage last night. About 15 shots each with the B330Rx ball and Ksig4 ball. I only did full smooth tempo swings (will be playing around with 3/4, 1/2 etc later this week)

1) 50 deg - avg carry 106. Avg distance 115

2) 54 deg - avg carry 95. Avg distance 100

3) 58 deg - avg carry 85. Avg distance 89

These wedges seem to be very easy to hit and spin a good amount. Next up, on range/course evaluation

I bought the 60 and I am a believer. Really great from bunkers and for flop shots but also very solid from about 50-75 yards. A real keeper. I'm thinking about getting a 54 or 56.

I Concur with this - concern was around green and versatility / feel shots with the 60...one session and you will be sold

absolute money / pin hunters on full shots

added the 50 and 56 and could Not be happier

Its possible. Some have recently reported issues with Skytrak - - distance variances with the latest update. Will have another go around with the 50.

Practically all of my 50 CBX shots were draws and carrying 102-108 range and getting a roll. 54 and 58 had a good amount of height and spin and stopping quickly. . Carry distances with the 50 CBX is in line with what I typically get with my Gap Wedges

I read all the hype. Figured it was just that, hype. Then last Saturday attended a demo day and tried them Loved them. Bought a 54 and 58 and went immediately to the course. Awesomeness! I never in a million years thought I would replace my gap wedge but that's just what I'm thinking about doing. These things are that good!

I’ve had the 50/54/58 since last August, they kicked my Vokeys out of the bag. My home course is short so I use these for most of my par four approach shots and a couple of the par threes, plus I use the 58 for bunkers and almost all of my chips. They spin just as much as anything else I’ve hit, the wide sole still works fine when I need to open the 58 up, and they are very forgiving for wedges (especially useful this time of year when my season is just starting and I’m not striking the ball as consistently as usual). I’ve seen a few people mention offset but I have no issues with it on these, my irons are Bridgestone J40s with practically no offset since I don’t like any.

I’ve spent two days with 50* CBX, SM7, MD4, S18, Scor and Glide 2.0 at the range for full/3/4 shots and around the chipping greens from 50 yards and in.

CBX on full and 3/4 shots tend to draw for me. it was little hard to get the face open to fade.

Around the green, they are easy to hit but little clunky around the green.

I am having same issues. They seem to draw a bit too much for the liking, particularly the 50 and 54. Wondering if ball position maybe having an impact.....

My son just got a 56* in their junior line. His chip shots instantly got better. I had a feeling this would be a good club for him. Glad I spent the money and upgraded him to this.

I plat straight edged MD wedges, and this club did not suit my eye or the results weren’t there for me. Just a word of caution for anyone used to a tight bladed wedge. I could use it in the bunker though. Awesome sole for that.

I’ve recently put the CBX 50,54,58* wedges in my bag. I play with blades but have always struggled with short game. They’ve been a godsend. So good on full shots, finesse chips and pitches are also very easy to pull off. I’ve also been able to open the face with the 58 and hit delicate flops around the green.
