Cleveland CBX wedges thoughts

The CBX wedges continue to amaze me. Even if I’m not having a great driving day, or iron shots are not spot-on, the CBX wedges rarely falter. Full shots, chips, pitches, bunker shots, you name it. I’ve played a ton of wedges, and it’s really interesting to see when certain wedges work, and certain wedges don’t. These plain work. YMMV.

Any Ping Glide wedge players that can compare the Glides to these CBX wedges?

I have played both. CBX is definitely the more game improvement wedge of the two. It goes longer, the Glides have more spin. Don't get me wrong, the CBX lands and checks up quickly, but the Pings will stop on a dime.

Both feel fine to me. CBX is a better trouble club I would say. Glides a little more of a precise wedge. I only have the CBX in gap wedge (52 bent to 51). I have played Glides in 50, 54 and 58.

I have been trying to find wedges to work with my newly fitted Callaway Rogue X irons (5-pw). At 70 years old I have had my handicap rise from a 3 a few years ago to about 10 now. Mostly due to loss of distance all around, hence the move to the Rogue X. But the wedges in the Rogue X line leave a lot to be desired!

I had the MD 4 and MD PM wedges, tried the Glide 2.0 and a hand full of others (even the Rogue X gap wedge). I have settled on the CBX 46*, 52* and 56* plus the RTX-3 60*. I have found them to be longer than average (for me), very easy to hit, reliable distance control, versatile enough for me, very high launching yet not ballooning, able to knock down if needed, etc. The Glides were ok but more difficult for me to get consistency. Can't say they stopped quicker or not as the two had very different launch angles. I don't play out of much sand on the courses I play, and the Texas summer lies can be concrete around the Dallas area. Have not had any problems with the sole technology on these at all, given those conditions. I find they hold their line well into the prevailing southern wind here in Texas as well. Feel may not be at the level of a forged wedge but I have no complaints about feedback.

Seems a bit pointless to give these clubs another shout out, but here goes. Bought a 50 degree at the end of last year. If I'm not careful, I tug it a bit left--but that's on me, not the club. It's great for full shots, pitches, and running the ball close to the green. So recently I bought a 54--and somehow, I love that club even more. Have had excellent results from fairway and rough. Predictable, reliable shots in terms of length and dispersion. Best wedges I've ever played, and I've been botching wedge shots for a long, long, time. I'm a 66 yr old 13 hi, not trying to win tournaments--just trying to play my best and these things just make golf a hell of a lot more fun.

I love my CBX 52. Tempted to get a 56 or 58 for greenside bunker use, but my 52 has come in handy from all sorts of inside 100yd shots. It is so easy to open up on a variety of lies. It just plain works. I was playing a CG16 before and I never felt any love for it.

My GW CBX is 50* and it is just plain workable from any condition it seems. I feel much more comfortable hitting a pitch 70 yards than I would hitting my 54* the same distance, yet I get just as much bite.

I am probably about 20 rounds in with my CBX 54* and 58*, and they are still working great. They really do anything I need from them. And the 58* is very, very reliable out of bunkers. Cleveland really did an amazing job with these, because they are bigger than the RTX-3 and RTX-3 CB (and other similar wedges), but work much better for me in a variety of situations. Kind of counter-intuitive for a wedge.

I have to say my CBX 52 was sprinkled with magic dust today. I decided to try it for all shots I’d normally use my 58, or an 8 Iron or my putter (off green) as I wasn’t scoring today after right totally screwing up the first hole with a quadruple bogey.

Chipped in from about 20 yards twice for two of three birdies in the round, up and down pretty much every time.

It’s made me rethink my strategy, just so easy to bump and run.

Ha, the bump and run with the 52 is my stock short game shot. Having said that, the course I regularly play doesn't have a lot of bunkers fronting the greens.

I picked up a 58 degree about a month ago. So far I love it. It has been so reliable on both chips, pitcheqs, and out of the sand. I would highly recommend it.
